5. DESIGNATE APPOINTMENTS:
Mayor Pam Triolo explained the dinner meetings behind locked closed doors and out of the Sunshine as not "secret" but just dinners. She also said that she was interested in having MORE boards--Education, Arts and have community meetings on roads. Frankly, we have too many boards with non-elected people given way too much power.
Last night, Andy Amoroso was the hatchet man and made the following motions other than the Vice Mayor pro Tem and CRA:
A. Vice Mayor-- Scott Maxwell
Vice Mayor Pro Tem--Motion made by Maxwell to appoint Amoroso
B. Various organizational appointments:
1) Metropolitan Planning Organization liaison--Pam Triolo
2) Palm Beach County League of Cities liaison--Scott Maxwell
3) Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council liaison--Ryan Maier
4) Florida Municipal Power Agency liaison--This was Christopher McVoy's appointment in the past but Amoroso appointed Scott Maxwell. As all sorts of changes have taken place at our Utility and there is still the thought of selling our electric utility, the change was made. Also, it was in retaliation to McVoy's letter during the campaign. The message was clear.
5) Downtown Cultural Alliance--Amoroso appointed himself
6) Community Redevelopment Agency liaison--Maxwell appointed Andy Amoroso
7) Lake Worth Sister City Board liaison--Ryan Maier re-appointed even though there are NO meetings and it is virtually sunsetted.
8) Neighborhood Association Presidents' Council liaison--Pam Triolo
So, in essence, the concentration of power stays the same other than Chris McVoy completely kicked out, the only man who is a scientist with a Doctorate and who had the nerve to speak up against them in support of Amoroso's challenger, Frank McAlonan. He gets no job at all.
We did find out that not all of the commissioners knew about Maxwell and Bornstein's meeting with the chairman of the Braves about John Prince Park as a national league stadium. Chris McVoy had to read about it in the Palm Beach Post. Kevin D. has more influence and importance than does an elected commissioner. So, in spite of the mayor denying "secret" meetings, they are still taking place.
It's going to be a long year.
Also, a few members of the public spoke last night, one a president of a neighborhood association in Ryan Maier's district. She chastised him again for not appearing at her NA meetings or returning an e-mail. Where in the world does it say that a commissioner MUST show up at a neighborhood association meeting? My district commissioner, Scott Maxwell, has NEVER shown up at a ROLO meeting other than one time when he brought his baseball bat.
Also, one over zealous and disagreeable resident shot Jo-Ann Golden and myself the finger as he walked by. He had just finished berating Ryan Maier at the lectern...something to do with his new convertible that he drove in the Gay Pride Parade. I have no idea what that was all about but obviously in his mind it was important to be belligerent. He was extremely proud that he got to drive the mayor in the Parade.
Will there ever be decorum and normalcy in the city chamber?
They have never been cordial so why change now? they only want to hear their own opinions and their own voices and Maryann Polizzi's. Who's the other one-Perilla?
ReplyDeleteMcVoy and Maier have no power. They lost this past election just as much as the candidates who were running. The people have spoke. They want this leadership to continue. The people agree with the majority's position on heights and the Gulfstream hotel. It's time to come together and work on solutions. Do you think that McVoy and Maier should now moderate their positions and try to work with the majority? No way that will happen. Even though the people have by this election supported the policies of the majority and rejected the policies of the minority, they will still push their agenda as if they had the power to accomplish anything. If I were them I would try to compromise and work with the majority. If as you always say the will of the people matters why are McVoy and Maier not recognizing that voice.
ReplyDeleteThis is a democracy, John, not a dictatorship.
ReplyDeleteAnd you know why these incumbents won this election.
All voices need to be heard, not muffled as this majority is doing.
Why we got ticked at the King
ReplyDeleteand Declared Independence...
"For taking away our charters, abolishing
our most valuable laws, and altering fundamentally
the forms of our governments:
For suspending our own legislatures, and declaring
themselves invested with power to legislate for us
in all cases whatsoever."
"In every stage of these oppressions we have petitioned
for redress in the most humble terms: our repeated
petitions have been answered only by repeated injury.
A prince, whose character is thus marked by every act
which may define a tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler
of a free people."
The people spoke and it was an overwhelming victory for the positions of the majority. Are you now saying that the people were tricked and voted wrong. Didn't you object to that argument when you won the heights vote. You can't use money as an excuse in lake Worth. I have seen candidates lose who spent three times the money as the winner. That just doesn't cut it. The people spoke in our democracy and I want to know why McVoy and Maier will not recognize that voice.
ReplyDeleteWhen is it payback time for all these pacs that gave a lot of money. What does Mark Foley want? Marty? Hudson Holdings? Dylan, the criminal?
ReplyDeleteYou are not a stupid man, are you, John?
ReplyDeleteJohn Rinaldi, don't you have any conception what happened in this election?Really? As far as I can tell, neither chris or Ryan are complaining, just your friends loving driving that nail deeper. You all make me sick. Despicable little characters.
ReplyDeleteWell, this is what the majority who voted wanted, these assholes, so we can all live with them now. Maybe with all their money, they can get two more assholes next year to join them and get 5 of them. Then we can really make this city better!
ReplyDeleteI think most people just don't got to eh city meetings anymore, because of the way these three treat people, they are so nasty to the public that they are supposed to be REPRESENTING. What a joke!
Hey John Rinaldi:
ReplyDelete"Don't argue with a fool because from a distance, people may not be able to tell the difference."
-Mark Twain-
I think it just makes comm amoroso look bad, plane and simple.
ReplyDeleteHas anyone else received the Survey call about the baseball stadium for Palm Beach County. They are asking if we want it and if we think it would be a good money maker in Palm Beach County. They also ask a lot of questions but the one the give you a choice of, after all of the stadium questions, is very softly spoken. Do you feel that the money should go to roads and infrastructure? You can barely hear the question presented so be careful when you answer if you are against the stadium. Thought this was a done deal but I guess Maxwell has a burr up his ass and just won't accept no as an answer. So get ready. Here we go again.
ReplyDeleteThe election was mostly won by the lies that the incumbents told the people about the opponents. BUT money really help to seal the deal. We can all sit back and moan and groan but we really need to stand up and tell the people what really is happening. Even though our votes are never respected we must continue to fight. We all know that the trio is corrupt and think only of themselves and their personal goals. Yes, Lake Worth needs to progress but until the crime is brought under control, the streets are repaired and the people are listened to it is not going to happen. I, for one, wanted to open my business in Lake Worth but when I checked on many things I felt that it was safer to go elsewhere. My insurance rates would has been astronomical due to the crime in this city. The roads in many areas are deplorable. Why would I jeopardize my family and my business by moving there. I lived in Lake Worth 7 years ago and I loved it. Not anymore. My friends live there now but there house is on the market as they see the decline happening before their eyes.
ReplyDeleteWhat with the pic of Comm Amoroso in a hoody with a knife? I don't get it?
