Blast from the Past - Scott Maxwell

Comment Up

The only time he speaks to citizens is when he is calling them liars or worse. Return a phone call?  Forget about that. Answer an e-mail?  No way. This happens with frequency. Lately he has his personality in check concealing a less pleasant or creditable reality. After all he has to show some sort of  normalcy towards the electorate.  Scott Maxwell is running again in District 1. His challenger is Ryan Hartman.

OPINION: Anyone Better Out There?

Something has to change. For the fourth or fifth City Commission meeting in a row, Commissioner Scott Maxwell reamed the private citizens who were in the audience, with so much venom spewing from his mouth that if anybody had lit a match, the room would have blown.

One word spoken from the audience in meager defense, and the mayor barked: “Quiet in the Chambers!”

Three members of law enforcement – Capt. Rolando Silva and two deputies – sat on the back bench. They should have taken Maxwell out and charged him with domestic abuse. It’s our house, after all, City Hall.

On Tuesday night, Maxwell railed against those opposed to plans for a Hudson Holdings-built convention center at our beach, accusing them of lies. They said they’d listened to the tapes of the ITN Committee meetings. He said from the dais he hadn’t. But he still accused them of lying about what was on them.

You really can’t take him seriously anymore. The name-calling, the screaming. But it doesn’t make it any more acceptable.

I’m not sure why he holds elected office here, or why anyone would vote for him. You wouldn’t if you saw him in action.

Lake Worth needs better representation. Let’s set politics aside. At a minimum, we need representatives who understand that they are public servants. We need people who will listen to us, and respect our wishes — on the beach, on the bond, on heights.

You don’t have to be the perfect candidate. You don’t have to be connected. You just have to be willing to listen.

No matter what you think of Scott, Hartman will be worse for the city overall.

  6. Scott is a horrible human being an commissioner. This is based on six years of him being a city commissioner. All the trash talking about Ryan is based on Facebook--I doubt any of you have even met him. Use your brain folks, do actual research, talk to the candidates

  7. What has Scott Maxwell done for any of us who live in his district?? Nada. A big zero. They finally, after a number of years, removed the poster child for "make me a crack house" just around the corner from his home. Only because you shamed them by putting it up on your blog again--can't have it looking bad just before the election. He is not a terrible person--just a terrible representative. No representation for residents; only out of town development interests. Why do you think they are getting so much money pouring in to their war chests for reelection? Paytoplay and you willgetyourway. Now they all are against privitazation on our beach curiously. Watch that change in the wink of an election if they are back in. March 16 beach will be open for bids.

  9. I don't get where the comment "Hartman would be worse" is coming from except the fearmongering and slander because he believes in standing up for what he believes in. Which includes the environment. HORRORS!!WHY THE MAN MUST BE A TERRORIST--HE MUST THEREFORE BE AN ECOTERRORIST!! What a crock of bull. He wants our neighborhoods to be safe and I'm all for that. I would much rather see our money spent on our neighborhoods that going to outside developers. He has my vote 100%. Scott lied about the ITN, and continues to do so. Ever wonder why the trio seems so well practiced? It's because they are, they act in unison, they rehearse in unison, and they expect to get their way in unison. Now Scott is saying that ANYONE could have gone to the ITN meetings. Really?? The only way that could happen is if you traveled back in time to an alternate reality. Everyone knows those meetings were closed, and purposely so to keep the voters in the dark about HH plans for their private beach club and Convention Center and Parking garage on a public beach owned by the citizens of Lake Worth. Show us where those notices were--you can't because of this cockamamie "Cone of Silence." Remember that, Scott?? And now Les Lackman employed by HH is going to solve any parking problems at the Gulfstream by just taking parking from our beach? Think of who is most devoted to making sure the beach is in the red so it can be appropriated to private development, even firing the finance director to prove it when the numbers could not. A vote for Scott is a vote to LOSE OUR BEACH for sure!
