What's going on at the Lake Worth Shuffleboard Courts?

Comment Up

Well, this was leased out to the CRA on a 10 year lease with one 5 year renewal option that in turn sub-leased it to the Armory (we can't get enough ART in this city). It's still our property, as far as I know. In the back-up at the time, it showed all of the courts being removed. And just think, this excavation started exactly on the first day of the new budget cycle. The city has wanted these courts out for a long time because 1) they can't maintain ANYTHING and 2) a few years ago they wanted some sort of a park for those who live in and around the neighborhood. My guess is it will be a park where people can sit and watch the Crematorium?

This used to be a great place for Seniors and those who liked to shuffleboard. The city likes to tell us that no one shuffleboards anymore.  The truth of the matter is, they just can NOT or will not take care of our assets--none of them. The other thing that they do not care a fig about is listening to the residents and what they may want. We had several charettes about the courts and most everyone who attended wanted to either keep all of them or half of them.

The CRA is all about grants--spending state, federal money. They don't even have to pay the city for this building and the city picks up the tab for just about everything. Renovating shuffleboard courts for seniors and others to play must not be in any grant description even if we have had courts near city hall for 100 years.

We are assuming that they are removing the courts but it hasn't come before the commission. In order to remove these courts, the CRA must have had city approval.

  1. Its funny how the city claims there broke... No money for employees.. the beach is losing money.. But yet, they always seems to find money for huge raises for CM & Dept Heads & side projects! When did Lake Worth become so Shady & why doesnt nothing get better only worse with back alley deals & low morale'?

  2. I know what you mean ANON 8:42, My friend Sandy just quit after 8 years with the city because she couldnt take how awful they treat the staff and pump out the lies. She was very hard worker and nice lady that will be missed. Experience with time served counts for nothing anymore. =/

  4. Oh, that is so sad. Part of our history and shuffleboard is coming back as a hipster sport. I was just in Mt. Dora and walked passed their beautiful lawn bowling club that was being used.

    Poor management.

  5. So why does anything that goes on in our city not surprise us. If you read other posts that Lynn has about wages and employees it is unbelievable that we have any employees that want to work or even stay here. If they are good employees they are taken advantage of. If they are good leaders and respected among their employees they are asked to resign or terminated for crazy trumped up issues. And the $ just keeps flowing to areas that make no sense. We need changes at the top. Wes never reports on any of this as he is in bed with all the corruption as well so thank you Lynn for your reports.
