Describing what happened in Charleston as a terrible tragedy is an understatement. Those blaming the massacre on White people, the Rebel flag, T-Party conservatives, Fox news, lack of hope, etc. are just looking for excuses to perpetuate the hate that exists in our country today and dividing this country further. We see it right in our own city and at city hall. Love is taking a temporary back seat.
The shooter, Dyllan Roof, a 21 year old loser who has a heart full of hate and evil, fatally shot nine people while they were praying at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. Can anyone imagine anything worse?
Ben Carson said it well last night:
"Certainly not the tone that I would have adopted." [talking about Obama's tone and what he said--"But let’s be clear, said Obama: at some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries."]
Carson further stated, I think we have to start going to the heart of the matter. The heart of the matter is not guns. The heart of the matter is the heart, the heart and soul of people...the alleged suspect did not wake up yesterday and turn into a "maniac...the country needs to start concentrating on instilling the right kind of values in young people.
I hope we the American people can come to the understanding that we are not each others' enemies. The enemies are those who are stoking the flames of division trying to divide us in every category and weakening us as a society."
And as he said on Twitter and probably the most important statement made to date by anyone running for office:
“I fear our intolerance of one another is the new battle ground of evil. Today many feel it is ok to hate someone who thinks differently than you do. Please join me in praying for our great nation, that we may heal ourselves before it is too late.”
Carson gets it. Many people don't. Some people have no clue when it comes to the difference in love and hate. Certainly people in Lake Worth are clueless such as Wes and Mark (both Marks) when it comes to what really is hate and what really is defending a position that is politically opposite from the detractor who is divisive and causing the hate to perpetuate. There is a difference here. We need to express our opinions without some people getting bent out of shape and using that opinion for more hate, getting people fired from jobs and boycotting businesses of a pastor. LW is out of control with some people and two of them sit on city boards.
ReplyDeleteSomeone came over here (LWTaxpayer) to personally attack me...did not like my graphics. Obviously, he did not get Carson's message...it just did not sink it. It never will with these people.
ReplyDeleteAll writers use parody and satire. This is not something new to Lynn's Little Bit of Trivia. And we understand that some people will disagree with our positions.
Politics brings out the beasts in our town. It always has. Thanks Lynn for always trying to put things into proper perspective. I don't always agree with you on Democrats as an example but on local issues you always seem to get the essence of it all and tell the truth.
ReplyDeleteSuch a horrible thing in Charleston. 99% of people don't understand such hate and evil. This nut case was a true RACIST. Now ,Mr. Maxwell, do you understand my outrage in having a sitting city Commissioner call myself and others in this city that vile word? All because I and the majority of people believed differently about a political issue? I'm still waiting for your public apology to myself and Dennis Dorsey, the Treasurer of the C.A.U.T. PAC. ReplyDeleteThere is a growing tension about race in our country. Charleston was about evil and hate by a nut job. Hate and racism is something growing in our city as well. Szerdi can attack a blogger for an opinion. Mark Parrilla can verbally attack an elected official in a city commission meeting on a code violation that has zero merit and the mayor allows it. He can call anyone a racist and people buy into his hate. It is time to stop. Opinion is just that. Everyone is entitled to have an opinion but to incite hate is just plain unacceptable. For Wes to call anyone who disagrees with him a racist, is just plain stupid and he is what is divisive. Fire him from the P&Z.
Wes is on the Historic Resources Preservation Board but we agree with your message.
