Well, if we know anything by now, we know that former Lake Worth CRA member Shanon Materio who is a commissioner in West Palm Beach, is all for revitalizing the Dixie corridor where she has a business as well as developing the area in the south end of West Palm Beach.
Last night Mrs. Materio along with former commissioner Kimberly Mitchell were at a meeting that lasted about 1.5 hours hosted by the WPB South End Neighborhood Association held at the South Olive Community Center in order to tell the neighbors what they have in mind for the south end of the city--create what they call a spectacular southern entrance to West Palm Beach. The Redevelopment Management Associates, hired by West Palm Beach as a strategic planning agency, conducted the meeting.
When they say "spectacular" they mean opening up the canal on both sides (Lake Worth as well as West Palm Beach) that would entail creating a boat-lift on the C-51 canal with little finger canals like the city of Venice, Italy. Once completed, it would become an anchor feature. West Palm Beach bought the old IHOP property in 2012 for $2.9 million which is at the most southern tip of West Palm Beach directly on the canal. WPB leaders bought it in order to eventually revitalize the south end.
Ms. Materio answered a few questions from the audience. One attendee asked a question on the C-51 Canal and stated that "7 permits are needed" but Materio said that it is a long way out and therefore that as well as environmental
concerns are premature and don't need to be addressed at this stage. As it is on the Lake Worth
side, Materio said that Lake Worth had to be involved. Also it was mentioned by the consultants after Mrs. Materio had left the meeting, that she has been talking to Lake Worth about this project for the past two years.
A few Lake Worth residents were in attendance, one of whom was Commissioner Ryan Maier.
Glad someone is being proactive about addressing the Dixie Hwy corridor!
ReplyDeleteHow are they being proactive, anonymous?
ReplyDeleteDoes this mean that there were secret meetings? katie Mcgiveron is right. meetings in bornstein's office need to be recorded.
ReplyDeleteHello? WHO has been talking to WHO in Lake Worth for TWO FRIGGIN YEARS ?!?!
ReplyDeleteI don't remember EVER hearing about this at a public Commission meeting !
"Spectacular", "Venice", Jesus Joseph and Mary ! Maxwell says we're too broke to keep the pool open for sensible hours! But there's always money for the stuff that the city Manager and the Commissioners pull out of their asses, like Maxwell's dream POC and now THIS boondoggle? Just who's frikkin dream is this ????
Forget just recording every conversation Bornstein has with ANYONE !!! We need to install tracking chips in these Muther Fuc$ers !!!
Meetings with Bornstein need to be recorded EVERYWHERE he opens his mouth to OUR Commissioner's ! He can't be trusted and neither can Scott, Pam or Andy ! Katie Mcgiveron P.S. Torcivia needs to be included in this group of miscreants.
ReplyDeleteLynn, you and Katie are so out of the loop that all you can do is throw insults at the very people who are leading us out of bankruptcy and blight. Only small minded people such as you and most of your commenters would be against such exciting improvements. Your time should be spent defending your bud Dee and not mucking up L.W. progress.
ReplyDelete@8:54--not too astute are ya?
ReplyDelete1. What progress?
2. how are they leading us out of bankruptcy when they want to tax us more and haven't done one damn thing to fix a pothole...only spend money on a big piece of dirt at the Park of Commerce?
3. leading us out of blight? Crime is rampant. You must be blind, anonymous.
4. Is this Jimmy Fallon in disguise?
5. Or just an escapee from 45th Street?
Lynn, as always thank you for your kind "astute" words. Progress is developing Dixie Hwy. With the added tax revenue we could begin to eliminate blight which goes a long way in getting rid of crime. Thankfully logical thinkers in our city see this formula. It would help your soul to get out and pitch in and quit inflicting us with your personal battles.
ReplyDeleteWhat personal battle? Please be more specific rather than slinging personal attacks.
ReplyDeleteThe only way this road can be revitalized is by owners who want to upgrade/develop their properties. It is all free enterprise. Neither you nor I can do anything about Dixie Highway revitalization and the road is not a city street.
So get out there and tell your Dixie Highway property owners to clean up their blight.
First of all-anyone that can not put their name on their comment can not be consider as having a valid comment to be considered since they are not convinced of the diatribe they spew.
ReplyDeleteI will suggest to any interested party to look up on Google or any search engine- "Fal=Kirk Wheel" and you will get an idea of what Materio has in that little scheming vacant cranial capacity, that does not have any ideas that improve the quality of life for anyone except her and Mitchell and Pinsky.

Arguing with idiots!
ReplyDeleteIf Dixie Hwy is CRA - there will be NO EXTRA TAX COLLECTED for the City but the CRA (unelected/unaccountable) will benefit! They will take your tax money - build brand new next to 'chit' and then re-access the property values and walla - a chit hole value will increase (like artificial insemination) even if they do nothing to their property. The EXTRA tax money goes to the CRA (TIF) and NOT THE CITY! It's a debt bomb that can borrow w/out the people's permission increasing bond writer's pay and harming us with plans we do not even know about (2 yr conversations)! Do they pay the extra school taxes from the increase? I don't think so as most DO NOT!
It's a shadow government that leads us into debt, buttering their friends bread and leaving us wondering wth happened!
Can we talk about the salaries these people make to 'correct blight' and how we notice red bottom shoes and new boobs! Great economic development plan (NOT) considering what the average citizen makes in LW!
Katie you are sounding totally unglued. incidentally no commissioner or mayor is your servant.
ReplyDeleteAn elected or appointed holder of a public office is referred to as a public servant.
ReplyDeleteAlthough Kimberly Mitchell has been defeated, but like a hydra, she grows a new head and keeps moving for the benefit of Richard Pensky and Company. Commissioner Materio who had been in office but for a matter of a few weeks after stating she would not run for that seat, convinced the city commission to spend $2.9 million of reserve funds to block Walmart with the help of Kimberly Mitchell. Whether that was a good decision or not remains to be seen.
ReplyDeleteHowever, if it had been left up to the dynamic deadly duo, and they are a duo -- Mitchell and Materio, we would have moved our city water plant to Riviera Beach and be in the midst of disrupting and destroying the homes and streets our citizens so that the vultures that pay Richard Pensky, Mitchell's ex-husband and main puppeteer could get their hands on downtown and Clear Lake property. Please let us not forget Digital Domain debacle that Mitchell said she would do over again if she could. Voters were wise enough to get Mitchell and her scumbag crew out of office and if we are smart Commissioner Materio will bite the dust in 2016, There is no limit to their delusional and egomaniacal greed.
Materio has used the term "Urbanism", but we really know what she means. My campaign to remove Materio has started and if the rest of the South End wants to have this scourge removed, you will be looking to replace this woman also.
Shanon Materio has been a thorn in the side of well informed Lake Worth residents here for years, creating a PAC (BACPAC)to change the composition of our LW Commission, to stack It to favor businesses, starting with hers.
ReplyDeleteAfter being exposed in LW, Kimberly Mitchell and Richard Pinsky helped her to win the appointment as a WPB District 5 commissioner, for the sole purpose of self gain. We were glad to get rid of her. This resort she has planned, to boost her property values, will end where all of Kimberly Mitchell's Ideas have ended, costing WPB tax payers a pretty penny.
Her daughter Taylor, submitted a waiver before the city's historical board and Shanon Materio appeared before the board, pretending to wish farewell to one of the board members but was actually there to sway the decision to grant her daughter the waiver. She thinks no one is aware of how she is using her city position for ill gotten gains.
Hopefully, the same voters who got rid of Kimberly Mitchell, will vote Materio out of office in March 2016.
I'm all for WPB cleaning up their south end, so long as they don't simply push their trash south.
ReplyDeleteThis could be a boon for the College Park area.
@10:23--this discussion was so much more than cleaning up the south end. Actually it had nothing to do with "clean-ups." This was major revitalization and changes to the C51 canal there.
