Former Lake Worth commissioner John Szerdi and his parting words of "wisdom"

Comment Up

Out-going Commissioner John Szerdi congratulated the newly elected commissioners, Christopher McVoy and Ryan Maier, BUT...

instead of exiting gracefully and telling everyone that he was delighted to have served them over the past 2.5 years, he made another poor decision giving pot-shots full of excuses for losing his election accusing those who he felt caused his defeat of deceitful political tactics. He said that having a newspaper (The Lake Worth Tribune) right before the election was "very effective; having the beach come up was "very effective" and bringing up an ethical violation was "very effective." He said, "There was no satisfaction by winning by deceit."

He went on to say that "I didn't really realize how gullible people could be" and even quoted something from Proverbs on wisdom. Saying that deeds are more powerful than words (he mentioned all of his accomplishments), the quote he should have remembered was Proverbs 11:2 “He that is void of wisdom despiseth his neighbour: but a man of understanding holdeth his peace.” Or he could have referred to Proverbs 29:11, " A fool gives full vent to his anger, but a wise man keeps himself under control."

He also told all of us that he is pursuing legal alternatives.

Good luck, Mr. Szerdi. The 57.34% of the voters got your message but they got it long before they voted.

  1. We really need to pray for him. To be so unable to see the obvious is kinda mind blowing to me. Are we really that powerful or did the truth set us free from his mean condescending way on the dais? In addition to Ryan's 1400+ vote to Szerdi's 900+ vote, people voted for Frost (130+)over Szerdi and he really never ran - explain that vote?

Thank You NAPC for the truth at the Playhouse Debate! It's what I heard was a real vote turner for many. Especially the questions at the end they tried to combine (manipulate) and got manipulated back because they can't control the ANSWERS!

  2. Now think, John Szerdi doesn't have to work for Hudson Holdings behind the scenes, now he can go full fledge ahead to F the city and our beach.

  3. • ZEN (noun)
The noun ZEN has 3 senses:

    1. school of Mahayana Buddhism asserting that enlightenment can come through meditation and intuition rather than faith; China and Japan
    2. a Buddhist doctrine that enlightenment can be attained through direct intuitive insight
    3. street name for lysergic acid diethylamide

Familiarity information: ZEN used as a noun is uncommon.

  6. Funny how you strayed away from his quotes Lynn and left out many other good ones as well. That's ok. Now you will all have to OWN the brain child that you think is far superior to Szerdi. I thought that while he did blast the dark side for all the very effective tactics, he did say he enjoyed his time on the commission and praised the staff and other commission saying that votes were unanimous 96% of the time.

Uncanny you didn't touch on the great things Ryan wants to pursue as his close alliance with McVoy will no doubt help to put forward all the initiatives Chris started in his last two terms. They are....ummm

  7. Where did you come to that conclusion, anonymous at 12:25?

  8. @12:26--same person as 12:25?
Szerdi's ridiculous personal attacks far out weighed anything else he could ever say. He made a bad mistake taking the advice that he did. His unkind and negative attacks will be remembered, not anything else. Unfortunately, he believes the stuff he says. He should have stayed with the positive instead he crept boldly into the darkside with negativity, lies and false assumptions. His supporters along with one or two others in the chamber who felt sorry for him, fell for it all and clapped. Also, he should not have left the chamber when he did...bad protocol.
I hope that they all listen to what Commissioner McVoy had to say. The voters have.

  9. At 6:26, John Szerdi says that less than 5% of our residents decided the outcome of this election. There are only around 15,000 registered voters in the city and the SOE says that we had higher than county average (15%) participating in our election, a little over 16%.

  10. No response to the question about Mcoy's initiatives? Shocker since he hasn't presented any.

  11. As you may or may NOT know but probably do, McVoy has been on the minority side of all issues here. He still will be.
He did stand up for the people on the Heights vote and stood with the people on then general obligation bond and he is standing with the people on keeping our beach public.
    Still shocked?

  12. Szerdi's speech hit a new low for Out-going Commission Comments. If anyone ever thought he was a nice man they don't now.

Hey, it's not like he got any votes the first run. Who knows if he'd had to debate an opponent he may not have ever been a Commissioner.
The Zen commissioner? Really? How zen was his final speech?

  13. Another really sickening comment was mentioning The cottages. the Welfelds gave him $2,000 for his campaign. He was playing politics until the bitter end.
