Jeff Clemens files Sexual Orientation bill

Comment Up

Florida legislatures have until February 25 to file new bills and there are many coming.  Jeff Clemens' bills are always of interest to us. Joe Abruzzo from Wellington has an anti-discrimination bill SB-0156 that will add sexual orientation and gender identity or expression as impermissible grounds for discrimination, etc.

Clemens's bill: Sexual orientation change efforts:
Licensed counselors and therapists, listen up. Trying to change a minor’s sexual orientation could land you in hot water with the Florida Department of Health. State Sen. Jeff Clemens, D-Palm Beach, wants to abolish any attempts by licensed professionals to dissuade young people from pursuing same-sex relationships. The bill does, however, allow for professional support for minors seeking “gender transition” and “identity exploration.” But actively trying to change “gender identity” or “gender expression” is a no-go. Confused? It’s probably safe to assume some members of the Legislature will be, too.  Read more...

  1. jeff just seems that he likes to show he is doing something for the malcontents of this state, druggies, prisoners, speeders, and now transgenders/gays who feel discriminated, does he have any gay or transgender friends? He didn't seem to like Susan Stanton much. Why is he doing this when it already exists? Wasting time and money. What does he do for the average middle class taxpayer who pays taxes and could use some support?

  2. Name recognition--He is going to follow in the footsteps of Mark Foley, IMO.

  3. Hey Jeff, how about doing something to prevent infant deaths? It's called Joey's Law after our own Pam Bergsma's grandson Joey who died of a PREVENTABLE tumor if his pediatrician would have known to look for it ! It's really shameful that Jeff Clemens and other politicians are so afraid of the medical lobby that they won't support this bill. The medical lobby that is not willing to spend what amounts to PENNIES on each child who would be checked. The exam would take only seconds- BUT NOOOOOOO pennies and seconds are too much for Jeff Clemens to support !!! SHAME ON JEFF CLEMENS !!!

  4. Does Jeff's job description include any of this? Pam - let's get a team to contact every pediatrician in the state and let them know what can be done. Why if it's so important would anyone depend on one rep (especially Clemens) to do it? Wasn't it under his 'reign' that our talk time was cut to 2 minutes - he's not listening - he's shutting us up! Seems a bit silly as they pick and choose who will donate to their next election and cater to them! It it's to be it's up to me/we!

Lynn - give us the action steps and I will join in - waiting for Clemens to do this good deed is insanity imho! Great idea for wtp, useless to Clemens at this time!
