Very few Americans would willingly take public transportation over driving their own car somewhere, and most rarely use mass transit at all. A new Rasmussen Report finds that 70% of American Adults rarely or never use mass transit like buses, trains, subways or ferries, and another 11% only use it every few months. Just 12% use mass transit services at least once a week, with seven percent (7%) who use them every day or nearly every day. Six percent (6%) use mass transit two or three times a month. It doesn't matter that the entire western part of Lake Worth within the city limits will be affected with noise, pollution, traffic stops and congestion. Our city commission is in favor of it! All Aboard Florida says that it will upgrade crossings to safety levels needed for the passenger rail during its track upgrades and not hold cities responsible for that work. Afterward, municipalities will resume responsibility for maintenance. How much will that be especially when we have lots of trouble maintaining anything.
I will try to verify the 60K per yr per crossing maintenance 'takeover' cost. It's private land but the Federal Loan is still on the table and that part troubles me!
ReplyDeletePlus who watches what's in the cargo trains and is it potentially harmful if there's an accident?
Most people don't use public transportation because its not readily or reasonably available. Anyone who drives i-95 here in So. Fla. on a regular basis would welcome a decent public transportation alternative.
ReplyDeleteI get that retirees probably are not interested in public transportation since they are done with work, but that doesn't mean its a bad choice or investment for the rest of us.
Well, there you go again--Mr/Ms. Arbitrary. You don't believe in the Rasmussen Report either?
ReplyDeleteIf you look at the questions asked, not surprising that the results would be dismal. I can ask 1000 WORKING adults, would you rather drive your own car and sit in traffic for two hours or would you rather hop on a train and arrive at your destination in 40 minutes and I would get positive responses.
ReplyDeleteTry driving down to Ft. Lauderdale on a Tuesday (in season) via I-95 between the hours of 7 and 9 am. Its horrendous, and looking at population demographics more and more people want public transport options (look at how few cars Generation Y is buying).
We don't use public transportation because it's not available. This project will help traffic on 95 and turnpike making it safer for drivers. Rail is the way to go for cargo plus the bonus of moving people makes it a winner.
ReplyDeleteThis "project" is a pack of lies . Life will be impossible near our railroad tracks and our waterways. How many people will die because of this? Shameful.
