We are very lucky to live in Lake Worth. What beautiful parks and beaches we have. Our downtown has so many great shops. The only thing that could improve our little piece of paradise would be to have Commissioners that respect it.Can you imagine how great we could be if our Commissioners actually concentrated on improving what we have NOW versus "build to the sky and they will come"?
Now it is harder to park in the decal area, so many Canadian cars parked there with decals. If this ends up that most of the parking is all Canadian lic. plates soon there is going to be a rebellion, this was a bad decisions. This decal lot should only be for permanant yearly residents, not for others with out of state plates. Starting to be a big problem now.
Those LW life guards all all a bunch of good old boys, they don't follow the rules posted that say no surfing in swimming areas. They all let their buds surf all over, making the swimmers mover. They are BAD cops on the beach. Even the county lifeguards are in cahoots too. They use the surf board for saving people to go out and surf to have fun, not paying attention to swimmers int he water. These lifeguards are bad news, real good old boys, watch and pay close attention to all the rule breaking they do. Until there is a real accident, they will likely keep doing it. Who is in charge of the lifeguards at the beach anyway?
Trish, the Lake Worth Lifeguards and the County Lifeguards are some of the best anywhere! Your comments make no sense when you talk about good old boys. They handle a very large beach area with some times hundreds of people in the water! And yes they have to manage the water for surfers and swimmers. The surfers generally are also your friend as they have assisted lifeguards with many rescues. It was a beautiful weekend in the water maybe you should just relax and enjoy and know that you have a top team of Guards ready to rescue your disgruntled self without a second thought.
In addition our Lake Worth Lifeguards have a highly successful Jr. Lifeguard program that is respected throughout the Southeast US.
I would check your comments before posting such nonsense, you may actually need one to rescue one day!
It is true though that on the LW beach signs the rules say "no surfing in swimming areas," but the LW lifeguards do not enforce this rule, it is clearly posted.
Lynn, two Sundays ago, the Lake Worth Lifeguards kicked all swimmers out of the water and closed the beach to swimmers from the pier all the way north to Kruesler Beach, they did not let swimmer stay in the water, it was a beautiful day for swimming, but they gave preference to the surfers only, there were tons of surfers taking over the beach that day. This was around 12noon. So many people were so mad. Then you wonder why we chase away our tourists? People are here for a few days to enjoy the beach and they have to get out of the water, it is so unfair when the rule boards when you walk on to the beach clearly state no surfing in swimming areas. I agree with the other poster that the lifeguards have a good ole boys system going on up at our beach, they are bad cops not enforcing the rules posted by the city authority. Swimmers are almost forced to go to Kruelser beach, those lifeguards usually do enforce the rules and do not allow surfers in their jurisdiction. Police today do not enforce a lot of our laws either, it is all a decay of our civil system, like you mention at the city meetings.
"Lynn Anderson said... @10:58. Near the pier is the best place for surfers as it seems the waves are best? Yesterday they were all south of the pier."
Let's see. 1st "anonymous" comment loves Lake Worth. Hates the current commission. Claims they are "building to the sky". Where is all this building taking place? 2nd "anonymous" comment complaining about the Canadians that as property OWNERS in Lake Worth are entitled to RESIDENT decals. Didn't a certain local blogger try to make a big deal about this a few months back? Except her complaints went NOWHERE except the echo chamber in her head. Then "trish" chimes in using words like cahoots and buds and good old boys. Words and phrases a certain local blogger likes to use. But you don't respond to yourself anonymously and you don't have ghost writers. Right?
Two Sundays ago the entire beach was closed because the lifeguards were being good old boys??? Two Sundays a go I happen to have been at Lantana Beach and Lake Worth that day and both beaches were closed due to........are you ready......SHARKS! Yep there was so much baitfish in the water and so many sharks chasing them that they were forced to close the beach to swimmers for their own safety.
This has to be a joke right? This is what you are complaining about??? OMG! What if someone had been bitten and the lifeguards decided to follow your advice and let people swim anyway because its nice out and people are on vacation???
4:54, Well, let's see. I honestly believe you have medical problems. You attribute everything on here to me! God, get a life. You have serious mental issues. There is not enough time in the day to keep up with all this work let alone answering your bull shit.
There is no way under the sun that anyone can persuade a commissioner to see the truth or the light. They make up their minds to certain things, change the name of non-residents to seasonal residents and give them a decal. That commissioner can't take the heat from screaming Canadians and changed the entire intent of the decal parking. What can we do about that? Vote him out I guess or put up with the crap.
Thats funny, i work at mulligans i have only seen one Canadian tag and one New york tag with the decal so far. Besides the idiot that parked in the decal 2 times with his Florida drivers license on the dash that says he is a lake worth resident and went to traffic court LOL those court costs weren't worth it.
Not to mention all the rules say no alcohol or glass bottles on the beach, yet everyday, and always on weekends, everyone just drinks, beer, can or bottle, and wine openly on the beach and other things too I am sure. The Lake Worth police nor lifeguards always highlight on their boards now alcohol or glass, but they do not enforce it, drinking alcohol is all over our beach by so many, white, black, hispanic, everyone, and then many smoke and toss all their butts all in the sand. It is a complete banana republic up at that beach, anything goes, so many all drink all over, leaving all their bottles behind or in the trash, the evidence is all around that place. NO ON ENFORCES LAWS AT THE BEACH!
There had been a few days there were bait fish and maybe sharks, but that Sunday two weeks ago, it wasn't about fish, it was all about all the surfers and letting them enjoy the surf. It really was not fair to the swimmers at all. Christopher must be a surfer. They need to provide equal space for swimmers, not close off the entire largest part of the beach all north of the pier to swimmers so surfers can surf, that was so wrong this day, people were so mad. There were no sharks that day, if there were, they would have made all the surfers get out too, and they didn't it was all about the surfers Chris, the surfers rule at Lake Worth beach. The Lake Worth lifeguards really should just enforce all the rules that are on the beach boards up there, period.
Are the county and city lifeguards supposed to use the rescue surfboards (owned by the city or county) to just be playing and surfing around on on their days off or on their breaks?
Chris, there were no sharks that day. It was all about the surfers amigo. The days that there are sharks, they make the surfers get out too as they are liable for all. The lifeguards are all surfers too, so they always side with surfers more. You must be a surfer too. God bless you all.
"Two Sundays ago the entire beach was closed because the lifeguards were being good old boys??? Are the lifeguards supposed to enforce the rules and laws about not having alcohol on the beach? They have it posted on the beach boards. Can they enforce it? but just don't? or is it supposed to be the LW police that enforce it? Wow, so many people openly drink alcohol all over the beach. You see it all the time. No one respects or enforces ANY laws anymore at our beach.
Everyday, you see one more Canadian car parked in decal parking, before you know it, the entire lot with have Canadians parked there, this is NOT FAIR that seasonal folks can come and park there, even if they pay $20 more a year, those spaces are limited and should be for people who live here year round and who can vote for city gov. issues. This is a completely wrong move, vote our Szerdi and the rest of them and get this damn thing reversed.

Rene, You got me. I am an (old now ) surfer. And my son participates in the LW Jr. Lifeguard program. I have gotten to know some of the lifeguards including Tim Empke (sp?) the head lifeguard and btw a non-surfer. Those guys are far from the "good old boys" label that Trish posted. They work hard, they train hard, they take their job seriously. And they get to deal with people who can't even swim yet venture out into the water on dangerous days. They get to deal with drunks, and belligerent peeps that endanger themselves and others, and they do it well!
And Rene, the guards can not make surfers get out if they refuse or paddle out from up the beach. BTW I am absolutely 100% sure the beaches of both Lake Worth and Lantana were closed to swimming at various times that Sunday. It was clear water but an amazing show of mother nature with huge bait schools migrating down the coast with sharks, Tarpon and Snook crushing the bait fish. There is a log available if you want to check.
These guards are allowed to open areas for surfing and swimming as conditions warrant, meaning they set the areas for swimming and surfing. Sometimes that's south of the pier only, sometimes north of the pier.
This part of the thread trashing our City Lifeguards is so unfounded. I have to wonder what the motivation is? Check their safety record and compare it to other City and County Beaches and then add in the number of visitors we have to Lake Worth Beach. We should be proud of them!
I think it is just great to see our beach parking lots full, full, full. All that parking money goes to help pay down the beach debt.
I also think its great that snow birds can get a decal for the beach parking lot. Snow birds actually pay much more in taxes and as a result I think they should be entitled to the same services year round residents get. Frankly, we make money off these folks.
That's right, anonymous at 2"42..we make money off of seasonal residents. They have the money to spend and are lucky---they own property here and out of state. It was just plain wrong of John Szerdi to re-write the narrative on the beach decals and make these folks Seasonal residents whereas they used to be non-residents. A resident is someone who lives here over 6 months and a day, has a Florida driver's license, votes here and is homesteaded here. Szerdi did not have the will to say NO.
