The Lake Worth Dais - They just won't "get it"

Comment Up

Although this commission has now lost the last two elections, they still want to put the blame on the "victors" ...you know, the people who don't agree with their "vision" that represent over one half of the city. The mayor  honestly believes that we walk the streets knocking on doors bringing out the other side of the message just for the hell of it--believing that our intentions are dishonest. You sort of have to wonder about who's running this "funny farm."

We have always, since I can remember, had two distinct factions in Lake Worth--one that wants to develop every square inch even into the sky and the other that wants to maintain our small town look and feel--those who sleep with developers and special interests and those who don't have anything on their minds other than love of city.

On or around September 5, the Mayor said: "Now for all of you long time Lake Worth residents, I know the battles that you fought on every side of the issue. But somewhere along the line it became about the battle, not the issues. The military attitude of win at all costs, has pitted friend against friend, neighbor against neighbor and the friendships and the sense of the community is what is lost at all costs. Decades of past hurts and resentments resurface each time an election comes to town, and distrust prompts the distortion of truth or the apathy that prevails.

The veil has been lifted, its time to put that chasm that has denied our progress over the last two decades to an end by coming together differences and all.

We need to create plans together, that work towards realizing our city's full potential with every decision that we make, decisions that make a difference to the less fortunate in our city by bringing in standards that improve their quality of life."

Well, folks, to this day, we have not heard about Plan B for our roads and infrastructure.  We have heard political speeches. Is there going to be a Plan B or are they simply going to turn around and put the issue back on the ballot telling you to "go stuff it?"  No one who voted against this bond has received a phone call or an e-mail asking to sit down at the table. Not one word has been mentioned by this commission. Instead, they arrange petty little one-sided battles from the dais and relish in the fact that they might have made a few uncomfortable by allowing and encouraging bullying. That tactic won't cut it and the mayor and the majority on the dais still don't get it.

If there was going to be any change, the mayor would heed her statement about "coming together and making plans together." So far, all is silent and all mention of the vote outcome is "out of sight and out of mind." They probably believe it was all a fluke.

  1. They serve quite a big "Word Salad" that we all need to toss! It's filled w/Donkey Droppings and shows a hi level of ignore-ance! They ignore everyone but those that follow their drummer! Their lips should also be limited to two (2) minutes so we can decrease 'public suffering' when they go on and on trying to brain wash us w/their Big Pile of B.S.!

Loved Szerdi sponsored election filing change so they show "Respect for the Intent" whatever that means! I think he's scared he'll have competition and has declared to us he needs more time! It has nothing to do with the giving the clerk more time - it's selfishly about his having more time! He's gonna need it!

  2. I think there is definitely a group that is neither paver or caver (so to speak). I find myself in that middle ground group, someone who wants to see the City improve via smart and appropriate development, wants to see values rise, wants to see an increase in owner occupied homes, an increase in properties moving onto the City tax rolls, etc. In fact, most of the people that I know and that I'm friends with are in this middle group. Certainly, the outspoken folks, the political folks are in the paver/caver groups.

I'm absolutely for infrastructure improvement, just did not agree or like the LW2020 proposal.

  3. You're absolutely right...@ 11:38. But the stronghold right now is the developer crowd...they are the ones in power and they are appointed to critical boards.

  4. Well then maybe some of the non developer whore will run in this election if not you get what gets voted, and or walks into the seats. As long as we do not get another commissioner who says from the Diaz " get use to living in the ghetto" or a head of a board that try's to push his Bed and Breakfast to a developer who had to stay in WPB because Lake Worth does not have a decent hotel.

  5. 12:04...you seem to have anger issues. No one wants to run in this city. It is beyond idealistic people. This "ghetto" comment you continually bring up has been explained before. Most people are not adequately informed and can't foresee who really are the candidates that can better the community they belong to, and therefore are unable to cast a vote to that effect. It is the guy with the assertive personality who promises to get rid of the slum and blight or the gal who smiles at the right times at ribbon cuttings. The public doesn't engage. They don't come to city commission meetings and they don't really see or understand what's going on.

As far as not having a decent hotel, it is a shame that the last person who bought the Gulfstream played games for years, got waiver after waiver from the city and still didn't perform--bought too high and lost it all during the economic crash. Hopefully, we will have a hotel in 14 months.

  6. A bag of asphalt large enough to fill 3-5 small potholes or 1 large one costs $12.99 at Home Depot.
I'm confident that our residents would be happier to make an investment such as this to fix the roads in front of their homes, than to be committed to $131,000,000.00 worth of debt until 2049.
It's time for a real commitment to Plan B and a realization from this Commission that a bond is not the answer.

  7. Mayor Triolo and Commissioner Maxwell, my Commissioner from district one- when are we going to have a meeting about plan "B"? I suggest the same type of forum in front of the Commission that the people who said they had a hard time voting got. Unlimited time to talk, Commissioners interacting with every person who speaks. When can we expect such a meeting? Katie Mcgiveron

  8. Anony at 11:38. There is one group beholding to special inerests. The other group is all the rest of us who just want a nice city without developing it over, living within budgets and taxing everyone to death to do it.
