Armory Arts Center Lake Worth and our Shuffleboard Court Building

Comment Up

The CRA was given our Shuffleboard court building for $1 a year that in turn leased it out to the Armory Art Center for $10 a year.  This little scheme (talk about schemers) was all about government grants. It failed to attract students and closed for awhile. It wants to lease studio space at $400 to $450 a month to artists and is now reopening once again offering classes with reduced fees.  Read about it at The Shiny Sheet

If you recall regarding the shuffleboard court building and this lease, taxpayers pay for all utilities: water, gas, electricity, cable, trash collection and removal and anything else you can think of.  This commission acts like we're a wealthy city...just giving away buildings for a buck a year to whomever asks. We know better because they just spent $50,000 of taxpayer money blitzing the taxpayers to death educating us on their need to raise taxes to pay for $63.5 million for road repairs.

Joah Oliva, Director of the CRA, is optimistic--
The CRA says if the Armory does not renew its lease then the CRA will look for another arts-related tenant. “We believe there is a need. If not the Armory, it will suit somebody. But we’re hoping the Armory has a lot of success there,” said Olivia.

  2. I report on the obvious things that should be questioned. Obviously you like the crap that goes on in our city. That is why the last three issues you all failed at...heights election, the ball park at JPP and now this bond. I like doing what I'm doing. Politicians on the other hand I have little use for.

  3. Lynn, you being a person with county roads and assoc. dues for car parks would you please leave us with gravel roads alone. With your help we will not get lights or fire hydrants either.

  4. Tell it to the 1570 people who voted AGAINST. I am only one vote. Incidentally, there is not a fire hydrant to be seen out here.

  5. Lynn, I am glad you like doing what your doing. But forme I would rather be "crazy" and happy than be normal and bitter.

  6. Why do you think I am bitter? Far from it, anonymous. I just have a different political view than do you. Name calling doesn't get us anywhere, does it? If you want to make assumptions, you really should call me and discuss. Actually, the city should start listening to the people they represent instead of making assumptions.

  7. If you are not bitter, explain burning pictures, bullets, etc it has been said that it was parody, but I as well as many people on Facebook find it disturbing

  8. Well of course people on Facebook thought it disturbing--they just want to character assassinate someone with a different opinion. I get that. When a mayor encourages them to come after me because she didn't like the photo of her, the face of the Lake Worth 2020 bond, then they all got an ok to do what they did.
This is bad politics and I discount it in its entirety and encourage the mayor to stop being a bully, if this is what she did.

You want to win this, rethink it. Get your people to the polls. Get a better plan and tell the city to be honest with the people who will fund it for 34 years.

  9. Sorry Lynn, but you should have told "your" side to tell the truth, and not you hysteria, lie tactics to scare people into voting No. The truth is in the Pudding with Mr. McVoy, if he is so concerned with Sea Level Rise, why was this brought up a year and a half after the beginning of th 20/20 discussions?

  10. Why can't any of you comment on the content of the article ? Lynn brings forward disturbing facts: The city gives away a bldg. The citizens are lied to by the CRA (It's going to be JUST TREMENDOUS for the children of Lake Worth, etc, etc,,,,vomit)
The Armory arts center proceeds to try to make money off a building that the bone heads at city hall gave away for a dollar !
We are supposed to turn over MORE money to these mental hydro-cephalics ? NO !

  11. @9:08. I checked out all of the sources that CAUT used during this campaign. Everything was taken from the city's own information and the PBpost. There were NO lies and I resent the accusation. Come over here with your own name and say that.

As far as sea level rise, it had nothing to do with this campaign--absolutely NOTHING...although it is something that should have been considered before we poured $63.5 million into roads and infrastructure.

The city said it had been educating us for nearly two years on LW2020. Personally, proceeds for LW2020 were slipped into the Budget and never mentioned as far as I remember. If you want to know McVoy's feelings on sea level rise, why not ask him. The election was not won on that factor.

What is a complete nerve that this commission pulled was spending all of that money at the POC before this bond was passed.

  12. To the long winded sniper who just tried to post here..The type of comment you tried to post is not welcomed here. You are entitled to your opinions no matter how warped and wrong they may be...just not here.
No one is bitter. Everyone agrees that everyone at City Hall as well as the commission are lovely people most of the time...we just don't agree politically a lot of the time and the best direction for our city all of the time. As "nice" as they may be, it's not working.

No one HATES anyone as you have charged. I do believe, however, that it is you who hates. Trust matters and truth counts, something you have a big problem with.

Don't come here again under the guise of anonymous with something important to say as it is all hatred. I have no time to address it and it will be immediately deleted. If you have facts that you would like to share, then by all means do so.
