The Balancing Act is Unbalanced

Comment Up

The commission wants the LW bond to pass but they can't come out and really say that, unless, of course, you catch them anywhere but city hall. Then they will tell you that this must pass...it is their last hoorah! They will tell you that it is imperative for Lake Worth to stay healthy in order to survive well into the future...that they have to correct 50 to 100 years of neglect...and must build infrastructure at the Park of Commerce for private enterprise/developers ($11 to $17 million dollars worth--the figure keeps changing).

Since the beginning of this country, capitalism has thrived in America and recently, before we knew it, we became more socialistic and local governments were giving away the farm counting on federal dollars to pull them through.  Companies invested; took their chances. That's not the philosophy of this commission. They believe that it is their do or die moment in time to tax you for 30 years to attract development. Fixing potholes is secondary.

Their $50,000 taxpayer funded advertising campaign to push and politic for this $63.5 million bond (really $131 million) to pass on August 26 is all a balancing act on a very thin ethical line. Using taxpayer dollars to promote only what they want and not disclosing any of the ramifications, is advocacy. They represent all of the voters; they are elected officials, not high wire performers.

  1. Lynn, you seem to be consumed with keeping this city divided. I bet if we brought back Stanton and her gang you would be totally in support of the 20|20 plan. You and your politics are so over.

  2. Honestly, I think it is this city commission that is dividing the city, spending $50,000 for their campaign to tax the property owners and persuade the voters.

I am bringing the other side of the argument, anonymous. So sorry you don't like to hear both sides. That's the problem with this city. Those opposing this tremendous debt have no voice and are not getting all of the facts.

If you do any research, I blogged against Stanton when I disagreed with her. So, once again, your statement is snarky and not factual.

  3. 11:04 you maligned the voters last March when they won an election. You continue to do that now. I don't like your crappy politics and you are wrong. You are the ones who are over because basically people don't like what you're doing.

  4. According to city attorney Torcivia, the Commission has to give some facts. And SOME facts are better than OTHER facts. So,it's OK for the Commission to ignore the things that they want to ignore and talk about ONLY those things that they want to talk about. If this were dragnet , we would be hearing Jack Webb say "Just SOME of the facts, ma'am.

  5. Carol @12:48, if you did not like our crappy politics why did you not run candidates and change the dais. Seems like your mo is to sit on your butt complain and wonder. Carol, get involved and volunteer or just remain sullen, sour and part of the problem.
