You've heard about indentured servants. Well you all will be just indebted taxpayers for three decades or longer. In fact, this bond, if it passes, will probably never be paid off. There will be so many people making money off of this (as Nirvana would say), "until the ribbon breaks re-imagination." And then in 30 years, they will have to turn around and re-do roads all over again.
This commission wants to educate you...educate you for 30 years of debt. And they badly want to win. They know better than you and want to convince you of what's best for you and your pocketbook. This is the present you get for the city's One Hundredth birthday--they will be using $50,000 of your tax dollars to ensure that they win at the polls in August in order to redo 30% of the roads and God knows what all in Lake Worth. Of course this money will be paid back to them from the bond fund--if they win--just like the free lunch! They don't have to go out there and raise money for their campaign; they just take it from their easy marks--you--the pawns. On top of all that, they have this item on the Consent Agenda.
It must be fun to have deep pockets and make decisions using other people's money.
TITLE:
Resolution No. 32-2014 – third amendment to the Fiscal Year 2014 budget
SUMMARY:
The Resolution transfers existing balances from several projects to make funds available for the purpose of
creating an information program for the Lake Worth 2020 project and related proposed General Obligation bond
issue. The total amount of the transfers is $50,000.
BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION:
This amendment provides the funding needed to inform the citizens of Lake Worth through several methods
including mailers, ads, presentation materials and handouts. The funds for this resolution are available within
each of the projects either through previous transfers or prior year appropriations.
Quoting Nirvana now? Yet another blog that should have been titled "guest blogger"
ReplyDeleteWell, you keep saying I don't write my own blog. Who does, anonymous?
ReplyDeleteIn a perverted sick sort of way, you continue to compliment me. That must be hard for someone who can't put two and two together and get the correct sum.
Glad you like my writings. Keep coming back; you might learn something.
Is what they're doing illegal?
ReplyDeleteIllegal or WRONG is the rules of procedure state this Agenda was to be POSTED fri by noon! It was posted Monday and putting this on CONSENT is IMMORAL & paying themselves back!
ReplyDeleteNo. They can do this because it is for "educating" the voter. Unethical? Probably.
ReplyDeleteAnd to the cute little fiesty person with the big mouth, what better person than I to take a stand on this issue when it will cost me nothing for years? I may not pay much of anything in city taxes at the moment but at least my place is not in foreclosure and I don't have someone else paying the tax certificate.
Wow, will they be using their inaccurate and misleading cost of a cup of coffee graphics? I'm sure they do want to "educate". They have 60% of the city to pander to, the 60% that pays nothing for this bond and nothing for any other city services and they say so sad to the rest of us who not only pay but pay thru the nose to support this little city.
ReplyDeleteRemember this is Corruption County-2 West Palm Beach Commissioners and 3 Palm Beach County Commissioners spent several years in jail or prison for illegal activities in the first decade of this century.
ReplyDeleteA tiny percentage of a percentage of $63 million will make a sizable kickback for the beneficiary.
Suzanne Squires.. you aren't making any sense?
ReplyDelete4:10 I would doubt if sense hit you right between the eyes it wouldn't faze you.
ReplyDelete$50 thous. I thought they were broke? I knew they were lying. This all seems highly unethical. Maybe I will check with PB Ethics commission.
ReplyDeleteAND they tell us they are broke!!!
ReplyDeleteSneaky, sneaky ! On the agenda it just says"Resolution No. 32-2014-third amendment to the fiscal year 2014 budget."
ReplyDeleteIt mentions nothing about taking 50,000 dollars of our money to tell us that we are broke and we need to give the city more of our money.
If this Commission can't tell us that it is going to take 50,000 dollars of our money in a straightforward, honest way ,then there is NO WAY that they can be trusted with 63 MILLION dollars !!
"You can lead a human to knowledge but you can't make him think."
ReplyDeleteIt's "Squire".
This Commission is really desperate to get their hands on this money. They seem almost like a group of desperate addicts.Scott Maxwell almost broke down in tears at the last city commission meeting pleading for the cash. This should be setting off alarm bells to any even half intelligent person. Connect the dots- it just doesn't add up to something honest.
ReplyDeleteWasn't one of the chief complaints of people that they had not had notice of this plan, and not had the time and information to decide properly? This seems to be a reply to that, to better inform people about the plan that we will all have to vote for or against. Fifty thousand dollars is nothing against the cost of the bond, and so is appropriate if it is for education on the issue before the voters.
ReplyDeleteSam Goodstein
LW has a lot of nerve spending $50 thous to "educate." You mean "brainwash."
ReplyDeleteThey should give both sides of the argument. They should have a back-up plan. But instead, they want to tax the poor people in this city with 35%, at the moment, picking up the tab for everyone until property values increase. This entire "vision" could not have come at a worse time.
Frankly, many people don't trust them with the money. They can't account for the last bond.
Sam, are you for real? Have you heard of ethics?
