The City Commission is in high gear and scurrying around to ensure that town hall meetings are being conducted so that all eligible voters can attend in order to learn about the 2020 Infrastructure program and how it will all be funded. They want this yes vote of the people on the August primary election and need to
go through the necessary steps to be able to tell you that they have done everything within their power to get the word out.
Vice Mayor Maxwell asked about the Glass House facility that only holds about 30 people..."what if we have a large number attending?" The next question was how will the city advertise the meetings? The city manager said that they would get the word out through newspaper ads and on the Internet. That explanation seemed to be ok with the vice mayor. 99.9% of the Snowbirds who are even registered to vote here are now gone and most people don't vote in off month elections. The turn-out should be minimal to decide the biggest debt in the history of our city. That is probably what they are counting on.
Town Hall meeting dates and times:
May 14: District 2--6pm--Scottish Rite Temple, 2000 North D St.
May 17: District 4--7pm--Glass House, Golfview Rd and 1st Ave South
May 21: District 3--6pm--First Congregational Church, 1415 N K Street
May 22--District 1--6pm--Osborne Community Center, 1699 Wingfield St.
All I can say is good luck to this commission, it ain't going to happen..
