Tonight's City Commission Agenda

Comment Up

The Commission meeting for tonight appears to be short--

There will be a presentation acknowledging Lake Worth Community High School and North Grade Elementary for receiving A grades.

Next there is the Genesis Neighborhood Association's (an association that isn't a neighborhood association but really is) presentation to the commission and will touch on the Genesis Foundation that its president, Mark Parrilla, has set up.

We will listen to the chair of the Historical Resources Preservation Board and all his PR on the wonderful things that they have accomplished to make our city better.  Although not in Lake Worth, there was no compunction about altering an historical park and bulldozing 83 to 100 acres for commerce and a national Spring training stadium.

You probably won't hear about Charlotte Taylor (serial litigant) and her situation as it is on the Consent Agenda. Ms. Taylor initiated her litigation against the City in 2004 by filing a quiet title action against the City for an unpaid City code enforcement lien and City special assessment liens against the Property.  Back then, the city played hardball against property owners. Some believe that the city actually wanted to grab properties and assessed them in order to do so. Assessment on top of assessment was slapped on Taylor's property and others making it impossible to pay and in this case, over a million dollars in fines were assessed. Here we are, ten years later and the city is the superior lien holder and plans on confiscating the property and purchase the tax deed for 1121 S. Federal Highway, Lake Worth, for approximately $91,000. Perhaps Charlotte Taylor will be there tonight.

Use and occupancy business license inspections will go from once a year to once every three years.

The city will amend its recreational and beach park regulations. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle, roller skates, a skateboard or other type of coaster vehicle upon or within the bandshell at Bryant Park or upon any bench, table, bleacher seat, stadium seat, or upon or within any other building or structure not designed and posted for such use within any public park of the city. And then, of course, there is Fido.

  1. When are the skateboard and bicyclists suppose to get off their 'good green ride' and can they walk that ride to where they want to actually go or what? Will someone be offended because they SEE a skateboard and will the person be required to 'cover it up' or pay a fine?

True Crime has a Victim - where's the victim here? It's a REVENUE GENERATOR people!

Can we take bets on how long before they try to tell US what kind of paper we can wipe our butts with? I mean they are in charge of our sewers and they can just FEE and FINE US for whatever they decide is good for US!

It's all fun and games for the elected and staff till someone takes away the thing they like! I'm prayng for that day! Seriously I am Praying that they personally "GET IT"!

    Toss the Word Salad!

  2. Mark Parrilla is in a league of his
own and I hope more join HIM by forming NA's that actually work for the people and not themselves and their lofty ideas that have little to do w/the people and their burdens but PROPAGANDA arms for the city!

    Go Mark! Great presentation!

  3. Lynn, Is Scott appointing 3 people to boards on consent? I'd love to see a post on the tearing down and rebuilding the boards in their own image. They didn't stagger the appointments so the Mayor and Vice Mayor have too heavy of an influence on the members.

    "Stacked in their favor"!

  4. It was this commission that changed how board appointments are made--ALL out of the Sunshine and behind a closed door at their individual desks. We only get to hear about it, if we're lucky, after the appointment has been made. This is on Consent Agenda, so more than likely we will have no input. At least now they are providing volunteers' resumes in the back-up. This entire system sucks just like their travel and entertainment con.

  6. You elected government making decisions w/out YOUR consent is far more dangerous than any skateboarder ever will be! We are promised Life, Liberty (freedom) and the pursuit of Happiness. There is nothing safe about that! It's risky as heck to live free and safety isn't anywhere in the founding documents.

Oh - Yes it is, silly me.

"THE Conventions of a number of the States, having at the time of their adopting the Constitution, expressed a desire, in order to prevent misconstruction (Misunderstanding) or abuse of its powers, that further declaratory (Legal Description/Interpretation) and restrictive (Limited/Limiting) clauses should be added: And as extending the ground of public confidence in the Government, will best ensure the beneficent ends of its institution."

Self Sustaining Safety by way of Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

  7. Weetha,
As a former Pres. of my NA & the current VP, I am compelled to comment on your blanket statement about NAs. I have never seen you in attendance any of our meetings so I believe its unfair of you to comment on what you think the agenda of our assoc. is. We have NEVER promoted lofty ideals & worked only for ourselves. Our entire focus IS on the burdens of our neighborhood residents & has absolutely nothing to do with the PROPAGANDA arms for the city.
I work hard to improve my neighborhood despite all the challenges.
You complain that your voice is often not heard. With generalized statements like the one given above i dare to say you will only perpetuate your grievance.

  8. What is the point of having a neighborhood association if not to protect our neighborhoods? President Mary Lindsey has made it clear that city propaganda is the main mission of the Neighborhood Association. She had no problem in throwing the Western neighborhoods close to John Prince Park under the bus.Mary Lindsey needs to step down as the President of the Neighborhood Association. It's time that they had a real President.

  9. Mary Lindsey is a tireless advocate for our neighborhoods. I am proud to call her a friend. Maybe 2:39 should run....right out of town.

  10. What is the point of having a neighborhood association if you will not protect your fellow neighborhoods?
