Lake Worth's Red, White and Blue Event

Comment Up

Yesterday was the one hour presentation delivered by the new Special Events Manager, Dottie Carson, on the 4th of July celebration in Lake Worth held at the Lake Worth casino. (They will try and get that $2 an hour parking fee any way that they can). Business owners in our downtown were invited to see where they fit into this day long event to showcase their businesses. As it turns out, they don't really fit in.

The only area that will be blocked off is between Federal and Golfview on Lake Avenue where businesses have an option to set up a display (cost of this display/booth is unknown at this time) to encourage customers to their stores on the Avenues. There has been a Sponsor Package devised by the city starting at their Platinum Level for $15,000 all the way down to the Red, White and Blue level for $150. This will allow you to wear an Uncle Sam hat, t-shirt and have your name printed in the Event Day Schedule. And get this--if the businesses don't bite the bullet, the event will be opened up to outside competitors and/or businesses.

The raft race will now be at 2pm. This is being done to try and keep those attending the 4th celebration to stay there all day and evening and spend their bucks. A number of 16,000 people to possibly attend was tossed out with one merchant wondering where they would park.  Answer:  "where they usually park."

Other happenings that day:

Horseshoe toss, water balloon toss, watermelon eating contest, cake baking contest, boat show, Corvette car show, skateboard stunts, wrestling match, washable tattoos for kids,  jet and water skiers, fireworks and a laser show at the Cultural Plaza to finish up the night.

  1. The City Event Planner (AND ASSISTANT) are Planning a City Event that is inconvenient and expensive for the local businesses. Really?

Is anyone seeing the disrespect and flagrant disregard for what should be our tax base? Think LW Herald Editorial and the CRA 'taking' the TAX increase from US; acting as an Unknown Government! Time to do the math and put the figures on a scale and see if it's all worth it!

  3. Dottie Carson won't return calls, emails, or even find time in her "busy day" to answer 2 questions pertainino to this event. She told two of the businesses one thing then I over heard her tell Brogues another.. I know where her loyalty lies. Congratulations Juan, you hired yet another crooked person for your staff. She's deplorable
