Hurricane Seminar

WPBF 25 Meteorologist Mike Lyons & many other Hurricane Industry Professionals were at the Lake Worth Hurricane Seminar last evening at the Lake Worth Casino arranged by Kevin Addison.

Unfortunately, this seminar conflicted with a District 3 meeting on the Lake Worth 2020 plan so the attendance was not what it normally is.

Personally I like the Shuffleboard court building better--more conducive to walking around and meeting the vendors, stretching your legs and the acoustics are better. At the casino, all voices resonated throughout the room making it difficult to hear the speakers. There were many prizes given out.

As it was three hours long and Mike Lyons did not speak until around 7:10pm, many people had left by that time. He gave an interesting talk on hurricanes. The main driver of this year’s outlook is the anticipated development of El Niño this summer. El Niño causes stronger wind shear, which reduces the number and intensity of tropical storms and hurricanes. El Niño can also strengthen the trade winds and increase the atmospheric stability across the tropical Atlantic, making it more difficult for cloud systems coming off of Africa to intensify into tropical storms. We might luck out again this year with only 1 to 2 major storms predicted.
