The 81 year old owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, Donald Sterling, was ordered out of his team's business, banned for life, fined $2.5 million and is being forced to sell it over racist remarks, despicable as they were, but said in the privacy of his own home.
What is going on in America? We are becoming a police state. Everyday when I read Facebook, there is one horrible story after the next about police brutality--shooting first and asking questions later.
The latest decision by the Supreme Court on detaining American citizens will leave you floored, says WND. The high court by its own order this week refused to review an appellate-level decision that says the president and U.S. military can arrest and indefinitely detain individuals just because they look strange or they believe that they are a security threat.

While he may have said racist comments or have been mean or insensitive. He does have the right to say what he wants and to be fined or forced to sell his team is crazy, our country is crazy and out of control. Then you wonder why no one respects the police or government anymore. We all have the right to say how we feel, although it sometimes can come back to haunt us, what they are doing to this man is above and beyond the law and rights of a human being. Our country is crazier by the day.
ReplyDeleteSterling's ban from the NBA has nothing to do with free speech. Sterling is a part of the NBA, the NBA constitution gives the NBA commissioner broad authority to punish and sanction this behavior. If you don't want to abide by a group's rules then the solution is not to join the group or to leave the group.
ReplyDeleteSterling has every right to say whatever he wants to, but those racist remarks can by punished by the private group he belongs to.
it was recorded in the privacy of his own home...was it a legal recording sanctioned by him? It is invasion of privacy.
ReplyDeleteTake that up with his girlfriend, she's the one who recorded it.
ReplyDeleteSince it was an invasion of his privacy we must pretend he didn't say the things he said. It is the NBA that is violating his freedom of speech.
He can sue for invasion of privacy but the NBA is NOT the government but a private company. He signed a contract w/a Private company and has to abide by the terms. They call for his public and private life to basically be above reproach. So he can sue his mistress because CA is a state that requires consent to tape but signed a contract and must obey the NBA.
ReplyDeleteThe better question might be why did it take the NBA so long to move, why now and what does it mean for the rest of the players?
Anybody singing a rap song today could be considered racist too!
B*!(#@$, Hoes, N*GG@rs with booties popping!
Dangerous territory no matter how you look at it. Our rights to free speech are part of our 1st amendment:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Is it possible that those of you whose comments have not been posted could make a comment without the personal name-calling? This is a blog for adults.
ReplyDeleteSo what's next, anony at 4:26. Will the government figure out a way to read our thoughts? Is that where we are heading?
ReplyDeleteThe Government will monitor the internet for "Hate Speech" - Really!

what is happening in America is the republican party is dying quick and will be dead on arrival before November---they hate women--they help the rich--they hide their money -example Michael grim of ny--they protect the church finances on the back of sexual abused children and I can keep going--the gop is dead and should be
ReplyDeleteWell, the truth of the matter is that the Republican Party is the only Party at the moment that will keep this country going and you alive. Socialism won't do it. Fiscal responsibility will...reducing the tremendous and unsustainable debt that Obama has caused on the citizens of this country to bear.
ReplyDeleteThought police.
ReplyDeleteThe RIGHT to privacy
The RIGHT of Free Speech
The RIGHT to Assemble with who ever you wish.
The RIGHT to be FREE from unlawful search and seizure.
Sure, the NBA can bar him but can they force him to sell his "company"?
For something he said in PRIVATE?
Yesterday I heard a sports law professor state he thought the NBA was on firm ground for any action they collectively wish to take. Conversely, Sterling is also on firm ground to appeal that action. Now you end up in a "Court of Law".
In a court of law, Sterling has shown he will not go down without a fight.
How sad. A bunch of multi millionaires and billionaires fighting over stupid and hateful comments made by an idiot which he has shown on many instances are not out of character for him.
Political correctness and liberal progressive agendas will be the ruin of this once great country.
What ever happened to common sense?
