Last night the Tree Board said it had suggested that the Buttonwood Bush be planted at our Cultural Plaza in replacement for the cut down Ficus tree. It can be cultivated into a tree that has inconspicuous flowers of white, yellow or pale green that appear on cone-shaped panicles in the Spring. The city's horticulturist has approved of this tree.
This....to replace the Banyan tree?? We need a magnificent tree planted here. Or one that will one day be magnificent. I don't think the Buttonwood is magnificent, esp. not one like this with silvery leaves. Why not plant another Banyan tree here?

ReplyDeleteThe recommendation from the Tree Board was for the Green Buttonwood not the Silver Buttonwood. They are larger trees than the Silver Buttonwood and visually their growth and canopy spread when mature can resemble the existing banyan canopy in the plaza. To see some, look along both sides of the road on the east side of the bridge going to the beach.

Thanks, Gael. I love those flowering trees there and hope it is like one of those. I just didn't hear him say the name of the buttonwood but the presentation was a little slow and hard to take-in as he was soft spoken.

I just looked up pics of the green buttonwood. It doesn't look that great. It looks like we're going to have a shrub sitting in that spot.

Why were two oak trees and one magnolia tree chopped down along 10th Ave North and North A Street, in front of the office building there? These trees were planted by the city to beautify the roadway.
