Meet Larry, panhandler in Lake Worth

Comment Up

Larry is a panhandler and he regularly works Lake Avenue dropping in on people while they dine at outdoor cafes or he just pops into a business asking for $$$. He has a tale of woe a mile long--cancer, AIDS, got poked in the face and blood all over. He is a sad sight.  There are many panhandlers in our city but Larry is one of the more aggressive ones. He has a mission--to get sympathy and get your money.

Although "aggressive panhandling" has been specifically prohibited by law in various jurisdictions in the United States and Canada, typically defined as persistent or intimidating begging, Lake Worth does not seem to have an ordinance on it because if it did, wouldn't it stop?

  1. Our merchants are trying ,along with most of us, to let everyone know what a great city Lake Worth is. Larry just pooped on all of that. Mom and Pop from back home won't remember our great shops ,but they will remember the bum who accosted them as they ate lunch at one of our restaurants.
This is the second time that this guy has panhandled me and my friends. Enough is enough. The cops need to make old Larry walk the plank. In the words of our City Manager ARGHHHH !!!!!!!

  3. Yes, this is a real problem. Our businesses and merchants cannot succeed with homeless downtown bothering people. Those of us who live here are used to it, but we don't like it. If I ran a business downtown, I would call PBSO every time I saw him, but the problem is that there is little the police can do. And all those say no to panhandling signs downtown look horrible too. I agree with the message but just makes it look so junky.
