Veterans' Day Parade 2013

Comment Up
It was a great day for a parade--the rain stayed away.
A few photos from yesterday's great Veterans' Day Parade.

Where you have politicians you will get politics whether you want it or not. The Mayor gave kudos to this commission for bringing back the Veteran's Day Parade.  The catalyst for all of this happening should be attributed to the citizens and veterans who wanted it.

Back in September 2007, the City Commission canceled the Veteran's Day Parade.  This to me was a tragic decision that was initiated by former Commissioner, Retha Lowe, a member of what many believe was one of the worst commissions in the history of Lake Worth consisting of Jeff Clemens and someone I personally like, Dave Vespo, who allocated the money to another event, Hispanic Fest. The people spoke out against this decision to no avail.

As it's never too late to apologize, yesterday Sen Jeff Clemens did just that and said that he was sorry for eliminating the Veterans' Day parade during his mayoral term here in Lake Worth.  We got it back and this parade was better than ever.

  1. I don't get it 8:54 am. What does that mean? I did not see any discrimination, just a beautiful ceremony honoring the best of us.

  2. Talking about 2007 when they took the parade away from the old Vets and honored the hispanics

  3. These parades cost money and when we are a city with very little money, think about the economy in 2007, the commission probably made what they thought was the best or better choice.

Maybe it was a mistake, but I don't think anyone on that Commission or the current Commission had it out for the Vets or had it out for the Hispanics.
