October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Two thirds of the women that develop breast cancer are over the age of 50, and most of the rest are between the ages of 39 and 49. Fortunately, most localized tumors can be treated successfully if they are caught before the cancer spreads, and in 9 in 10 cases, the women will live another 5 years.

However, late recurrences of breast cancer are common, so it is important to see your doctor after your treatment for regular check-ups to make sure you stay cancer free.

Mammography has helped reduce breast cancer mortality in the U.S. by nearly 1/3 since 1990.
