Well at least they caught these guys who were stealing copper wire belonging to FPL.
Back around 2006, the City of Lake Worth had a lot of copper wire that
was stolen. To this day, the city has no idea who absconded with our
property estimated to be worth between $6 and $10 million dollars at the time. If they did know back then, everyone kept their mouths shut. They weren't talking. Someone was in charge but
never held accountable. There was a lot of funny stuff going on back
then.
Just as an FYI the copper wire that came up missing in LW was during the failed 26kV conversion and was done by the contractors hired to do the work. Again no oversight was used and while it can't be proved I do believe that employees at LW did get a percentage of the "take". That plan has cost the city millions and continues to be a drain on the utility because of its failed procedures, excess materials (also much of which was missing), transformers, etc..
