Charity - Giving to those who need it, not the solicitor

It's really sickening but it all is coming down to greed in this country. People have their hands out for anything and everything. When you see Lake Worth residents volunteering to clean up property in their neighborhood as well as other neighborhoods in our community, they all need a big round of applause. They are not into scamming anyone and don't even expect a "thank you." To me, this is one of the things that makes this city so special. All of these people are donating their time and sweat, being charitable from the heart because of love of city or love of cause, like all the alumni who work for Dollars for Scholars--$750,000 they have raised.

We can't do anything much about the slum landlord who is contributing to the blight or the guy who walks or drives by discarding trash on our city owned parks and sidewalks-- we depend on our local government to correct those abuses. But we can bring awareness to the problems and pitch in when we can and if we are physically able. The very first step is ensuring that your own yard is manicured and pristine and that maintenance is routinely done on the exterior of your house.

Many of those who are donating time in their communities as well as others who are not as able, give monetary donations throughout the year to their favorites.  Some of them are not a good choice and some solicitors take advantage of our kindness or work on our emotions They always seem to call, even when you are on the "Do Not Call list" and it is usually at dinner time.

Take a peek at the worst of the worst: Click here. Not that they are "scams" per se, but very little of the money goes to those in need. Most goes right into the pocket of the solicitor.
