Cowering in fear

Comment Up

It's easier to give it away, sell it, or sweep it all under the rug or give kudos where they are undeserved. We have a bottomless pit of problems in Lake Worth and it just seems that none of them are being solved. What we are doing though, is allowing more affordable housing and finding grants (free money) for anything or everything we possibly can at the expense of the over-all welfare of our city. Standing up for principles? Oh no, we can't afford one more dime on legal expenses to defend those.

The city slum and blight keeps getting worse. Crime is unbelievable and we are not being told how dangerous our neighborhoods have become. We have to read about a horrible crime in the PB Post. Just the other night I reported two gun shots to the sheriff that came from the Orange Grove Mobile Home Park--a bed of continuous crime. The sheriff knows where the hot spots are...do you ever see a sheriff vehicle in your neighborhood?

The city has to get serious and tough on all the negative elements within our city. It isn't. It hasn't. It's about time that it does. We know what we want from our city and it's not leading from fear--fear of law suits--fear of being transparent, fear of spending money on Studies that will guide us in the right direction, worrying about development before we cleanup the slum and blight, etc. The antidote for fear-based management is not to dismiss risk but to operate with a controlled/sensible vision and following through without bankrupting us. Getting the priorities straight is what it's all about.

  1. Your photo of Michael Bornstein as a cowering watch dog of the city's money says it all.
Another photo of our elected officials as jelly fish with no backbone, would be appropriate.
They don't talk about their solutions to the problems, they just ignore big problems. All Talk and no action.
Code audit, F.E.M.A. bill over 8,100,000. Impact fees, etc.
These problems will not go away, only grow bigger. The City Residents need and should demand leadership.
Who is going to pay F.E.M.A.? The Taxpayers? Will we sue the parties who were responsible and betrayed our City?
These Actions require backbone, not talk.

  2. Look at the evaluation of the City Manager last month, an openly gay commissioner said the City Manager was sexy. Another City Commissioner who negotiated the City Manager's contract, drinks and dines on the City Manager's dime. Come on let's get serious, no wonder the elected officials are asking for money months ahead of time. Want to buy my vote, help me get elected.

  3. maybe an ostrich with his head in the sand to go along with the cowering dog. Clueless, they don't talk about solutions, strategic plans, or goals...they have none! It's so much easier to just blame those who came before, and keep patting each other on the backs for being "the best commission ever"

  4. I am a fan of the cm. It is a difficult job to say the least, especially without an assistant. Prior commissions and cms botched the pool being included in the casino plan. With that said I am disappointed that it had to come to this before he addressed code. He also watched the commission make uninformed decisions on our utility while leaning on a consultant to make our choice, costing us hundreds of thousands in fees. We have not had a bce in years. In the last ten years they have either landed us in court or near bankrupcy. I firmly hope this auditor keeps on track, and lets the cards fall as they should.

  7. HEY!

Can some of you stop being so anonymous? What are you afraid of?

As far as Lake Worth, we need some of you guys to run for office. These people are cronies. Courage is needed and you can all start by using your real names or at least a nickname... Then maybe we can put you in office.

Don't be afraid of this latest band of common hoodlums. They are not worth it. And, yes, unfortunately we are often too kind to them. For the most part they are some or other type of hoodlum.

  8. I agree, give reasons, the CM is a lame duck, a coward. God he can't even respond to the citizens emails, he does nothing, look at the code article today in the PB Post, that is reflective on a poor leader, the CM, he should step down, he is ineffective and nonresponsive, we deserve better than his mediocrity in this city. The crime is out of control, so many drug dealers and prostitutes. The blight an dlack of codes, it is just completely a mess, they have no clue, the deplorable conditions of so many places, just never getting cleaned up, running fines of $25K, but will they ever collect them? They are just not doing it for the citizens, especially the CM, he needs to step down, what an embarrassment for the people, we deserve better in this great little city by the sea Mr. CM!

  9. The CM doesn't have an assistant because he fired the Asst CM within his first week, and made the grand statement that he didn't need one. Now, in order to save face, he's stuck and can't hire one. Otherwise, he'd have to admit to his stupidity.
