Jeff Clemens Gets Punked

Comment Up

State Senator Clemens is taking the typical Democratic argument--blame the other guy or the guy in the right, or in this case, the guy on the left.

He believes that those who are driving within the speed limit should be forced to have some common courtesy and move over to the right for fast drivers, even those breaking the law. 80 mph in a 65 mph zone--no problem. What about ticketing these bums who speed and put everyone's life in danger?

Not sure if this proposed law is better than his one on medical marijuana.

  1. Sorry but this is just common courtesy. The alternative is that people driving slower think that they should become the traffic cops and regulate traffic on their own? We all have been speeding before for various reasons, why make traffic more dangerous that it is already is and force people into passing in the middle lanes. If you are an aware and safe driver you already practice this.

  2. Awh gee, my best friend just posted above. Always can count on you taking the opposite viewpoint and now defending someone breaking the law. Hey, the sun comes up in the morning.

  3. "sometimes" people traveling in the passing lane are going "below" the posted speed limit....driving below the posted limit is OK...not safe but OK. Its situations like this that common courtesy should be used and the slower driver should yield to the driver who wants to drive at the posted limit.........this has NOTHING to do with speeding. the procedure in Europe for asking the slower driver to kindly move over is a quick flash of the headlights. If that doesn't get there attention there's always the trusted middle finger.

  4. Not just common courtesy, but the law in most states... which isn't enforced as it should be. US drivers are poorly trained and variances in requirements by state don't help.

It's simple. Slower traffic keep to the right, regardless of posted speed limits. Traffic studies show that 85% of drivers set the actual speed on major highways. Some states have recognized this fact and raised limits where appropriate.

Having had the pleasure of driving in several European countries, one thing you rarely see is a left lane bandit. And NOBODY shoots the bird except in the UK... the usual reaction when a polite headlight flash is ignored in the rest of Europe is a light tap to the side of your head as you pass. Meaning: Imbecile, pay attention.

Anyway, road warriors in the old Soviet block make our driving habits look downright gracious in comparison.

  5. As I was entering the ramp to get on to I-95 with a line of cars in front of me, some car came up on my right and got in front of me, his car at an angle as there was no room. He was in a big hurry about something. When our cars got up to the interstate, he sped up and crossed 4 lines of traffic to get in the far left lane. He must have been going 90 miles an hour. Where are the cops when you need one? I honestly expected to see his car turned over in a terrible crash. I95 is dangerous and those speeding are the danger. I never see the FHP anymore.

  7. I think it's a great idea. Slow traffic moves to the right. It's common courtesy.

  8. Nice to see that some see it a common courtesy to move to the right.

the speed limit is 70mph for much of 95, not 65. going 80 in the left lane is standard on 95, the problem is people changing lanes, that's how accidents happen.

The FHP is out everyday writing tickets, many are in unmarked cars, Chargers, Mustangs, Camero's. Try going 90 everyday for a week, you will get a ticket one or more of those days. Limo Driver
