Subject: Lake Worth Casino pool

Jamie, I called last week. The person that answered the phone gave me your message receiver. I have not had a return call. I called to request all pool files that you know about be made available to me. As you know, I designed the pool in 1970. One of several large pools that I designed. I quit small pool design in the early 1960’s.

I have been back to the pool. I find no evidence of a cracked beam. My intermediate conclusions are that the workmanship by the contractor who re-did the pool tile work, etc., was inferior and will need to be re-done. (My estimate for that work is $50.000. ) I do not know the extent of his contract or what professional observed the work and approved the work. Hopefully, the City’s files will contain good information.

I found nothing to support any conclusion that the pool, after 40 years, has settled. I do recommend that the City hire Dennis Painter, surveyor with A &B Engineering to take some elevations. This information will assist in the evaluation of possible settlement. I’ll be happy to select the locations for the elevations.

Let me know when and where the files will be made available to me.

The pool bathhouse was designed recognizing State regulations for public pools. I will also take a another look at the bathhouse. The steel corrosion and concrete spalling is significant.

  1. John designed the pool with specifications. If the Contractor skimped on things,Like untreated steel and improper concrete mix that could present problems with age as it seems it has.IMO just rebuild the pool. Its old.More money to be spent. As for the settlement of the pool, who did the compaction testing, etc?Eliminate the pool and save the city alot of money.Cost to much to maintain.

  2. Thanks for your input, anonymous.
How much do you think it costs to maintain our pool? Do you know?
Did you know that we spent nearly 1/2 million refurbishing it just a few years ago?
What does old have to do with it?
How much does it cost to run the gym down in the Osborne Center?
What about all our ball fields?
    What about Bryant Park?
Just because you don't use the pool doesn't mean that the rest of the residents here should be denied this recreation.

  3. In the late 90's they told the City plumber years ago to STOP using the Cities street dept high pressure jet truck sewer cleaner to blow out the sand from the small drain lines on the pool deck that one day those lines will break underneath and the pool will sink!!

  4. Cost. You posted that a half million was spent a few years ago.How much was taken in to help pay for it?Its only going to get worse with its age.For the amount of people that use it, its not worth it.All those tourist have pools at their Condos. The ball parks aren`t used much anymore. No organized baseball like the 60`s thru early 80`s.No Volenteers like back then.Kids to busy using computers. No exercises. Just sitting. Not good at all.

  5. Sorry you don't use the pool. Many other people do. US Navy Seals for one.

  6. Now how often would the Navy Seals use it.They use the ocean a lot more. How many pool rescues do they do in a pool?None to my knowledge. If the ocean is rough all the better for them. When you have time give us a head count on the amount of people use our pool on a daily basis.I`d say maybe 20 to 30.Highschool has their own pool.Palm Beach or W.P.B dont have pools anymore that I know of.

  8. You don't know much about it. Why not do a little research and get back to us. We can then discuss.

  9. That is correct. The Seals rented our pool for extensive training. The pool can be used for many different functions to make money. Isn't it someone who said think out of the box.

  10. The federal government has a huge military budget. You don't think it right that they pay a poor city to use its Olympic size pool for training It's ok to give food stamps, housing and medical to illegal aliens though.

  11. When was the last time Navy Seals used the Lake Worth pool?

  12. The Navy Seals who killed Bin Laden trained at the pool, without the pool, Bin Laden would still be alive.

  13. I guess city staff have more important things to do than reply to a person who actually knows what the hell he is talking about. Mr. Brown, all those pot holes you filled on the streets in and around my neihborhood are pot holes again. Can you come around and actually do something that works for a couple of weeks? And while you're at it can you actually get a person to answer your phone who will actually give you messages?Mr Bornstein, could you please loosen your bow tie enough to let a bit of oxygen into your brain long enough to see that these issues are taken care of?Sign me- a red headed step child
