50 Marines to Secure Embassy

Comment Up

U.S. officials said some 50 Marines were being sent to Libya to reinforce security at U.S. diplomatic facilities in the aftermath of an attack in the eastern city of Benghazi that killed the U.S. ambassador and three American members of his staff.

There were several thousand crazy people in Egypt who stormed our Embassy, sovereign soil, and one of our brightest diplomats was murdered in Libya by Muslim terrorists, our enemy.

The consulate where the American ambassador to Libya was killed on Tuesday is an “interim facility” not protected by the contingent of Marines that safeguards embassies, POLITICO has learned.

  1. Lynn,

I read that second article that you say is about Obama not safeguarding our embassy.

I don't think that can be inferred at all. In fact I don't think the President is responsible for deciding the protection levels at our embassies.

I may be wrong, so let me know how this is his fault.

  2. Obama is the commander in chief. He is the head of all our armed forces. As such, the buck and responsibility starts and ends with him. He can't blame this on bush.

  3. The "buck" does have to go through a few people first.

    Securing Our Embassies Overseas

The Secretary of State, and by extension, the Chief of Mission (COM), are responsible for developing and implementing security policies and programs that provide for the protection of all U.S. Government personnel (including accompanying dependents) on official duty abroad. This mission is executed through the Bureau of Diplomatic Security (DS). Personal and facility protection are the most critical elements of the DS mission abroad as they directly impact upon the Department’s ability to carry out its foreign policy. With terrorist organizations and coalitions operating across international borders, the threat of terrorism against U.S. interests remains great. Therefore, any U.S. mission overseas can be a target even if identified as being in a low-threat environment.

Playing devil's advocate. If you believe that is the case, then every terrorist attack that occurred while Bush was in office, including 9/11 was his fault.

    Just say'n. . .

  6. Dear Devil-
I believe that we were talking about the fact that this embassy was not secured. If an embassy is not protected, it opens it up for all sorts of assaults. What in the hell does that have to do with 9-11 and the Twin Towers?
    Just say'n...
P.S. No bubble was burst. You wish.

  7. Let's see,,,,,9/11,hmmmm how in the WORLD could the Obama administration be blamed for not securing our embassy from RANDOM violence on a RANDOM day of the week? Although,I do seem to remember SOMETHING about 9/11 being significant,,,,
And THANK ALLAH,that those evil American Marines guarding our nasty American soil were not allowed to carry loaded weapons!!!!It would be like a woman showing her face,or driving!!!

  8. Obama is taking credit for the killing of Bin Laden but now wants to pretend he had no responsibility in securing our embassies from terrorists and the death of 4 of our citizens and the destruction of millions of dollars of our property. He wants to pretend that war was not waged against us here and it was some ridiculous movie produced by a felon?

  9. What makes israel america's ally? Is their allegiance based on the TRILLIONS of our tax dollars they have received over the years? Or the TRILLIONS in weapons they have been given over the years? Is it the votes they supposedly provide? Holding your hand out all the time and crying for protection is not really an ally.
Funny I watch the news a lot but I missed the footage of Obama throwing Mubarak under the bus. I didn't even realize Obama was in Egypt at that time, or that Obama holds that much influence.
You conservatives call him incompetent, feckless among many other fun names. But now you are saying that he can influence the world. Conservatives sound very confused about political matters.
Or they lack the ability to reason.

  10. Egypt has been our ally for 30 years. Egypt has maintained a peace agreement with our friends in Israel and has helped keep that region of the world stable for those 30 years. Obama did throw Mubarek under the bus. Now look what has happened--the Muslim Brotherhood in charge? You have to be kidding me or you are totally mad.

Liberals sure are confused on loyalty and common sense and who the good guys really are. Go raise our flag--do something constructive. What a complete dunce.

Israel has always been our ally.
