Wasting Away

Comment Up

We are constantly talking about high electric and water bills. Here is one reason--waste-- located near the front of the new Casino. Where is our maintenance crew?

  1. I may be wrong, but that "trickle setup" on a hydrant is usually used to flush the waterlines and or bleed air from the lines and is done on purpose over the course of a few days.

  3. Looking at this photo, I would doubt that this hydrant is being flushed on purpose. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing this water hydrant at the beach. One saving grace, it's WPB water but we are still paying for it.

  4. It is done on purpose. See the valve taped in position? The cap on the hydrant is modified to take the pipe and valve to allow the water to flow out of it. Once this is finished a standard cap will be installed on the hydrant.

The fact that you haven't seen the hydrant before means it's a new installation and therefore it would need to be flushed / bleed.

  6. The tape is there to hold the valve in position so it trickles water out.

A new hydrant needs to be bleed.

  7. Flushes all the contaminants out from the construction. It's a mandatory procedure. They take water samples to test it ....
