With nine major law suits in effect and tons of foreclosures that are on-going, our entire City of Lake Worth legal department has resigned.
Realizing that our staff was over-worked with cases that involved such things as the "hold us up for ransom" case of Greater Bay coming up in August, employee alleged hypertension, a jet ski accident near the Lake Worth Pier, Sunset Drive Holdings insistence to develop townhouses in a single family neighborhood thus jacking up legal fees, and multiple code enforcement violations, our legal department just dissolved before our very eyes.
With new city attorneys, none will have the experience or familiarity with our cases. It will take them some time to get up to speed just as it does with any new employee. As the City Attorney reports to the Commission, please do not leave salary negotiations to the Vice Mayor.
Elaine Humphreys has worked for us for nine years and understands and is familiar with all of the cases before us. Melissa Anderson has worked for our City since last November on a temporary basis and was hired full-time in January. She is a Florida native with over 20 years of high level experience representing local governments. She also has extensive experience in land use, code enforcement, environmental transactional law as well as litigation. The fact that she gave notice is not God's sense of humor as Melissa suggests--God had nothing to do with it. Pure and simple, she found a better job.
This has left the City of Lake Worth in a legal nightmare with no staff representation.
when have we NOT been in a Nightmare???
ReplyDeleteAre not most of the lawsuits that you are talking about being handled by Outside counsel?
ReplyDeleteJust Saying
Just saying--
ReplyDeleteThere are 3 cases being handled by outside counsel of the 9 I spoke. One of those is the Greater Bay law suit and Elaine Humphreys is counsel along with Brian Joslyn.
Who filed all these lawsuits and why?
ReplyDeleteI wonder how long she had her resume out in the market?
ReplyDeleteMy guess--it has been out there the entire time.
ReplyDeleteDuring the recession of the 80's, I took 3 jobs until I found what I wanted.
Minimum wage jobs are easy to find in any economy.
ReplyDeleteSeen today, but not in Lake Worth - Elaine Humphreys and Susan Stanton laving lunch at Two Georges.
