  1. Re: SHINY OBJECT OF DISTRACTION, aka renaming our City "Lake Worth Beach" --Comm Mulvehill got it right: the issue wasn't properly vetted & needed more time for public discussion before going on a ballot. (There is another month & a half of time for that discussion before the ballot deadline.) Mr. Maxwell, as usual, said he didn’t get it. --Here’s what it means, Scott: if you had this idea years ago, why suddenly bring it up now? Or at least, why not bring it up a few months ago? And, no, it’s not just about you talking it up with your friends, who all think it’s a great idea, natch.

    (1) What’s the ECONOMIC IMPACT on the City? How much will this cost LW taxpayers to change every sign, every building, every truck, every poster, letterhead, re-design the city logo, repaint the water tower, etc, etc, etc. –Why didn’t Maxwell ask staff about that in advance & provide it in his “no facts/just opinion” backup.
    (2) Where’s the RESEARCH? What is the US Postal Service policy? We need to know how this change impacts post offices now called "Lake Worth."
    (3) How about a COMPARISON? Similar situations occurred in Boynton Beach & Delray Beach. A few calls to their city managers or commissioners to find out how easy or difficult it was, what it cost, impact on the city, etc.
    (4) REACH OUT, beyond the city --to businesses and residents in “Unincorporated Palm Beach County” who will be impacted by this –make no mistake.
    (5) CONTACT Palm Beach County --to see if there is anything at a county level that needs to be addressed with the change.
    (6) COMMUNICATE with the local media. What can they do NOW to get the names right –ie, refer to “Western Suburbs” or “Suburban Central County” or “UIPBC”, etc.” –Why do they need to use the name “Lake Worth” at all, if it’s not in the city limits?

RE: USPS POLICY: This was mentioned by several people last night. If Maxwell had done a little due diligence, he would have known the USPS policy nation-wide: Names for post offices & addresses in “unincorporated areas” is the same as the nearest city that is incorporated. So if we change the name of The City of Lake Worth to “Lake Worth Beach” –all the places in UIPBC now called “Lake Worth” by the post office, will change to “Lake Worth Beach.” Just like western Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Boca Raton, etc. That means every post office, business, home address, everything west of Lake Worth. Just like now. They will all have their address name changed, but they don’t get to vote on it! (Think people say bad things about “Lake Worthless” now? Wait until they get a load of this. Ready for “Lake Worthless Bitches”?) On the other hand, people living near the turnpike can say they live in Lake Worth Beach, even if the beach is miles away.

The only good news about all that distraction: the people can vote on it in Nov 2012. Then, in Nov 2013, people can vote Scott Maxwell out of office! Please, someone needs to step up & start their District 1 campaign now! --Beth

  2. Glad to see that Maxwell isn't getting under your skin anymore!

  3. Don't need to worry about someone stepping up in District 1. Lynn Anderson and Katie McGiveron have it all under control. They have multiple candidates who are guaranteed to win.

  4. I am all for letting the people vote,no matter what the issue. Too bad our elected officials don't think we are smart enough to vote on the issue of growth in our city.As for the p&z members not reapplying, the issue is that they should not have had to reapply at ALL.Smart growth is not no height limits.Elected officials not letting the people vote is not American.

  5. It is a known fact of life that the inferior, base element of society, will attack its' betters, and therewith
confirms its' inferiorirty.A perfect example was given by street type Amroros,of newspaper vending fame on Lake Avenue. That does not know that one cannot quote Florida Statutes(Laws to simpletons) without thorough research.Mr.McNamara who studied Law at PBSC,naturally quoted from Florida's Law Books. The vulgar creature does not know they exist when saying Mr.Mcnamara did not know what he was saying and should do research.
A typical primitive street trash style attack on their superiors instead of learning..
The City Managers' lack of knowledge of the financially distructive impact of the wrongly districted Lake Worth CRA, according to their mission, on our General Fund , was sadly evident, when he tried to cover it up with double talk sailing around that issue. Michael, simply say I shall bring you the legal facts at our next meeting, retain the dignity of that position. Some of Lake Worth Citizenry is very sophisticated.
Dr.McVoy obviously after 2 years still had no idea what the CRA was to our City and how fiscally harmful, causing millions in Gneral Funds deficits, because of its' wrong districting! Conferring with the known knowledgeable Citizens to gain necessary knowledge is no disgrace.

  6. The reason for the name change of OUR city' proposed by look at me look at me - Maxwell shows,
that he really did not study the extend to which such proposal impacts all of Lake Worth. Lake Worth's bad reputation for crime and especially drug-dealing and prostitution Center will not change ,because of Maxwell's follie! All Citizens who hear about it laugh and mention total lack of comprehension of its' meaning. The Sheriff's office could have brought improvement,, after being in Lake Worth for a few years at a millions annually increased cost to Citizens, the City Manager does not know.
Unincorporated areas where much criminal activity occurs, will be given the same name.
It is advisable to thoroughly research the consequences, like Laurence Mcnamara does, before making statements or proposals.
Mr McNamara studied Real Estate Law including Urban Development.

  7. Boy that Mr. Laurence McNamara sounds like one smart feller. Maybe he should run for mayor or commissioner.

  8. How sad for you that you think these 3 people control your life. Most happy, adjusted successful people control their own lives.

  9. How sad for you that you don't realize that political decisions affect ALL OF OUR LIVES. Get back to your TV cartoons.

  12. King Maxwell gets to pick a new name for the city all by himself. His supporters would have a royal fit if Suzanne or Christopher attempted this!
Mary, where's your outrage - what no neighborhood associations were asked?

  13. Maxwell is a contradiction of himself. At the CC meeting he rants about too many duplexes and creating ways to stop them.
Then he votes to up-zone a single family neighborhood to single family two. And its in his district.
Who is he really looking out for?

    ReplyDelete
  14. The DEVELOPERS. The trio is looking out for the DEVELOPERS. You don't even need to wonder. Pretty soon they all will be driving expensive new cars, sporting expensive watches and owning private islands.
It couldn't possibly be that they don't think an ocean front town should look like a ghetto and want to see improvements made in their town. It couldn't possibly be because they want the city to attract new residents and businesses because it ain't happin right now.
It's only to line their own pockets.
The city is in great shape and doesn't need anything.
