Feds Swoop in on West Palm Beach Housing Authority

Comment Up

Back in 2009, the West Palm Beach Housing Authority came to everyone's attention. That is when the West Palm Beach city commissioners unanimously agreed to provide $3.5 million to the West Palm Beach Housing authority to help rebuild the city's most notorious housing project, Dunbar Village.

The Housing Authority survives on government money. There are over 3,000 people in the Section 8 program alone. This means that these recipients receive free rent, along with the advantage of a low cost mortgage program, a hand-out by the U.S. government. We have become a hand-out economy as nearly 50% of Americans pay no taxes. We read about fraud everyday.

The Housing authority is made up of 60 employees. Even the City of West Palm Beach who appointed its five member board has no control over it or how they spend the grants. The Board of Commissioners for the West Palm Beach Housing Authority is appointed by the Mayor of the City of West Palm Beach. It's executive director is Lake Worth's Laurel Robinson, a former Chair of our CRA.

Thirteen federal agents of HUD just swooped down on the housing authority and are doing a full fledged investigation that involves 10% of the recipients of Section 8 Home-ownership Program. When dealing with millions of federal dollars, there is always the possibility of "mistakes."

Laurel Robinson said, "We are an open book, a government entity of complete transparency." Put on your seat belt, this could be an interesting ride.

  1. There is so much corruption here in the USA and not just recently, did you see the movie the Conspirator? or Ides of March? They all show how our government and elected officials are so corrupt and going back to when Lincoln was president even. Even farther back look at what Cicero - 55 BC said, "The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be
refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of
officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the
assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome
become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead
of living on public assistance." There is way to much waste in all of this that the government does and people take advantage of it. People know how to work the system, we will collapse soon. A friend of a friend who is from the Dominican Republic and lives here now as a resident, works under the table and says she does not work, so she receives free rent money and a food card from the state to support her and her illegal immigrant boyfriend from El Salvador, they like just living off the government. The illegal immigrants kids go to school free at Highland Elem. getting free lunches and funding yet their parents pick them up in new $40K SUV's and pay no taxes working illegally. Even our CEO's of non-profits here run scam nonprofit businesses that take millions of dollars of government funding, everyone is out for themselves and don't want to physical work, they work the system and go around it to get their money for nothing, everyone wants to rip off the government and live high on the hog. When will all this catch up to us and when will the USA collapse? It is all a huge sin!

  2. I think in some ways, are government wants 50% of the population to not work or pay any taxes so they can control them and maybe get their votes easier, they want this. There is so much waste of our tax payer dollars, so if all these people could work, they do not have any jobs for them anyway, it is really all a vicious cycle. I think it is very sad in our society that we do this to people, making them work the system like this, making them feel they can't do it on their own, are we really doing this 50% a favor, their self image, their self worth, enslaving them to the government, what a sin our very government is propagating all of this. When will people rise up and not accept this treatment from the government? When will 100% of the people feel they can do it on their own and not allow this government to entrap them like this?

  3. I wish the USA would stop all public assistance to all people in the USA and any foreign aid to other countries, ALL. Think about all the millions and trillions they could save to reduce the debt. Maybe more people would start putting their faith in God more than in a government that will always disappoint us.

  4. Some people are legitimately on unemployment and/or other services however it has always been a thought that while your on assistance you should have time to look for work but maybe these people can do some of the so called government work while they are on assistance based on their job skills. If you can fill a pot hole then get assigned that duty so on and so forth....Also there should be time limits that the government sticks to. Get assistant through participation is what this anon says!
