Shanon Materio wants appointment to Bill Moss' seat

Comment Up
Shanon Materio, former member of Lake Worth's CRA, has thrown her hat in the ring for appointment to Bill Moss's seat.

"Materio, 55, is the owner of McMow Art Glass in Lake Worth, a board member of the South End Neighborhood Association and a committee member of Art in Public Places. Materio has also been closely aligned with Commissioner Kimberly Mitchell over the years, and she was on the committee in 2010 to extend mayoral term limits in West Palm Beach. Had that committee been successful, Lois Frankel could have been an office for a third term. Materio supported Dodger Arp over Moss in the March commission race."

  1. A friend of Kimberly Mitchell and Lois Frankel. That says volumes right there.

  2. Yes it says alot. That Shanon is able to cross lines and get people to work together. Anyone familiar with West Palm politics knows how Com. Mitchell and Mayor Frankel were at odds with each other on most issues. Com. Mitchell has always voted with the citizens of West Palm on her mind.Shanon has served on numerous boards in the city of West Palm , so working with elected officials and getting to know them ( if that is what you call friends) is a part of the overall way to get things done.I for one think Shanon will make a good commiisioner.

  3. It's true--they were at odds on many issues. Mitchell said at one point when asked if she was supporting Frankel again, "I have never had a problem, with asking the public what they would like. I’m not afraid of that even if the answer is not what I would like to hear. That happens to me all the time. I’m on the losing end of votes all the time. So that doesn’t bother me. I don’t think anybody, whether this benefits the current mayor or not, I don’t think anybody should be afraid of asking the question. Because we will hear pretty strongly one way or the other how the public feels about how their city is governed going forward."

  4. Ms. Materio and her husband have been long time business owners in one of the most depressed and run down areas of the city.
    That says volumes right there.

  5. The fact that she chaired a PAC that mailed some of the most vile and baseless flyers in the 2010 election (and that's saying a lot) speaks volumes to me about her ethics.
She's self-interested and not very smart. Her husband is a much nicer person. Why doesn't he apply for the position? He actually gets along with people who may not agree with him . . . like me.

  6. I'll bet if she doesn't get appointed she will cry and ask for a do-over.Remember her antics after not getting re-appointed to the CRA?After all,she is one half of the cry baby twins!

  7. Wow.... what a bunch of haters. At least she has shown up and volunteered to serve on boards in both the community she lives and that of the one she works. How many of you "cry babies" do that?

She is an example of what is good about Lake Worth. Strong, successful, involved.... no wonder you all have a problem with her.

  8. Shanon is an example of one side of politics in this city. She has gone against EVERYTHING I have held important. We have different opinions--that's it. So to say that anyone with a different opinion is opposite of those traits you mention is pushing it. I agree--she is strong, successful and involved and I can admire her for those traits--and for having a great husband who is there for her.

  9. 2 questions:
Who's not an example of one sided politics in Lake Worth?
So if anyone is on the opposite side of the haters and cry babies that makes you wrong? Or just on the opposite side of the haters and crybabies?
