An Alleyway in the heart of Lake Worth's Downtown

Comment Up
Paradiso, a fine Italian restaurant on Lucerne Avenue in Lake Worth says that it appeals to the most finicky of palates and pleases the fancies of vacationing diners venturing out to taste something extraordinary. But behind their restaurant in the ally is anything but. With pot holes, debris and cigarette butts, this scene would be a turn-off to a Lake Worth dining experience. You would probably flip a coin: Wendy's or McDonalds. There are open vents on the corner building where any small animal can enter with ease.

Alleyways exist in both older commercial and residential areas for both service purposes and automobile access here in Lake Worth. This alley is very narrow and full of pot holes and right in the heart of our downtown. When our city was planned out, Model T Fords were in existence. Our garbage trucks go down this small stretch, occasionally knocking into the sides of the building.

Recently fined $150 for graffiti on the back door, the ally behind Paradiso's has seen better days. The city has recently put down gravel and now I have been told plans to put in asphalt at a cost of $14,000. On the south side of the ally is Dave's Last Resort.

Paradiso says, "I'm not paying."

Behind Dave's (one of our more popular downtown restaurants) and at the side of the alley against the wall, is an area that is used to discard cooking grease. There seems to be a problem behind this wooden fence. No matter the cause of this unsightly area, you would most definitely turn away in disgust if you noticed this. The city will be repairing and paving this alleyway but this is one eyesore we can't claim.

  1. It's easier and less fuss when coding a guy with a palm frond out on the wrong day than a downtown business. LOL

  5. LOL. Do you even know what "toady" means? What about spelling?

Every day, this poster comes over here with his BS. He's a hit and runner with NO substance. I am still waiting for the day that he provides facts and figures instead of one line attacks. But, that's what street fighters do or what psycho, suckup, sycophant, toady lackeys do with no mind of their own.

    Sad, very sad. :)

  6. Our alley ways DO need maintainence.Did whoever bought the garbage trucks make sure that they could fit through our alleys? I hope the reastaurant was ginen a chance to clean up the graffitti before they were fined. Our businesses have enough expenses without having to pay for the destruction of vandals.Alleyways should be clean, but lets face it-why would anyone expect the place where the garbage goes out to be pristine?

  7. Downtown city alleys have always been dirty and nasty. Its the back of many business`s. Especially for a place that serves food. Where else can they put garbage and wash down things. Re-paving will help make the alley nicer but not solve some of the other problems caused by a business that serves food.
