Susan Stanton lands Temporary Job

Comment Up
Sun Sentinel

Fort Lauderdale has hired fired Lake Worth City Manager Susan Stanton as an accountant in its Housing and Community Development Division.

Stanton, formerly Steve Stanton, was previously city manager in Largo, but was fired in 2007 after announcing plans to change genders. Stanton was then hired in 2009 in Lake Worth, where she served for 2 1/2 years before being fired on a 3-2 vote in December.

Her position with Fort Lauderdale is considered “temporary full-time,” city spokesman Chaz Adams said. Her annual salary works out to $58,739.

“She’s going to provide some management assistance to the Housing and Community Development Division,” Adams said. Her first day on the job was Thursday.

  4. Good. She is working in a GLBT friendly city. I'm glad it worked out as she continues to seek a city mgr position.

  5. Well Lynn, I've checked both LW and Ft. Laud. websites and beyond and cannot find Ms. Stanton's resume. Perhaps your research skills are better than mine. What I did learn was that Ft. Lauderdale residents are even more vociferous than ours. Good luck SS. What will she be cutting out of her budget to live on one third of her previous salary? But, I'll bet she likes it there better!! Any takers???

  6. Well, she loved it here. She will adapt and she will finally find a place that will be lucky to have her talents as we struggle after hiring someone unqualified and who had already met his Peter Principle.

  7. Good gosh almighty anonymous 4:48! If she can handle a city she can handle accounting!
Are you even remotely aware of the intricacy involved in finance? Apparently not. No matter how hard anyone trys, her skill and expertise cannot be diminished – Largo was nearly bankrupt and did a one-eighty and she cleaned up years of bad management and neglect in Lake Worth. Good for Susan! You go girl!

  10. For the life of me, I just can't understand how much love is displayed from LA to SS, I have not met a single person in LW who has such admiration for SS.

  11. For the life of me, I just can't understand how much HATE is displayed by some of you in this City. I don't hang around people like you and have only met those who admire Stanton for all she has done. There are people who see it differently than you do, anonymous. I never agreed with all Stanton did however she never should have been fired. That is extreme Divisivness and just plain foolish poltiics.

  12. What's the over/under on her getting fired from THIS job too? 12 months? Will it be political then too?

  13. Took a nsaty pill this morning I see.
Stanton has been hried to do a job. She is still looking for a city manager's job. That will take a lot of time.
Not sure which will come first--her completing her assignment in Ft. Lauderdale or being hired as a city manager somehwere in the country.
I wish her well. Why don't you?

  14. The Housing and Community Development Division of Ft. Lauderdale is deplorable. Some Providers haven't been paid in over four months. This dept of the city currently owes ONE provider over a half a million dollars. Susan's first declaration was about how the providers should handle transgenders. This has never been a problem with the providers in Ft. Lauderale.
The city owes HUD over 2 million dollars for a building they purchased specifically for HOPWA. The city commisioners allowed the fire dept to burn the building down for practice. HUD wants their money back. The city is playing games with the providers money in an effort to skim anything they can. Tick Tock Susan. Some of these providers will be forced to close by the end of this month if the city continues their BS.
