Mitch Wilson
Code Enforcement Officer
Code Enforcement Officer
Mr. Wilson, with 15 years experience in his field of Code, works for the City of Lake Worth. He was the guest speaker at the ROLOH meeting this week. He lives in Ft. Pierce commuting every day to make our city a better place to live. We have 6 code officers and 2 in the CRA district for a total of 8. This has not changed even though there are still some who continue to spread the lie that our Code Department was "gutted" because some commissioners love ghettos. This is just political propaganda.
He was an interesting speaker and one who has a lot of enthusiasm for his job. Rental properties are being investigated to ensure that they are licensed and that there is no over-crowding. There is no doubt in my mind that Code is getting better and better. We are going to see a vast improvement and it all starts with staff ensuring that violations are handled quickly and efficiently.

The Top Ten List of code violations:
- Overcrowding
- No rental license
- No permits pulled for repairs
- Parking on landscape
- Abandoned vehicles
- Care of premises
- Landscaping
- Illegal dwelling and conversions
- Garbage/trash collections
- Hanging clothes on fences, bushes, etc.
God I hope we see more progress, it still is pretty dumpy in many parts, they really need to focus on 6th Ave South to 7th Ave north from A Street to Dixie Hwy, it is just so blighted and uncared, overgrown lots, boarded up buildings, lack of care of so many properties. It is getting better little by little, but we need more attention to the hood area (as Andy has called it) of the city.
ReplyDeleteWhy don't we just out source the whole Code Enforcement function to the county. Watres has openly expressed his disdain for the function and can't be expected to manage it.

ReplyDeleteTo Anon at 2:08 How about from 18th ave. south to the city limit with W.P.B. and from the Waterway to the High School, there are dumpy areas everywhere.
ReplyDeleteLynn, since the number of code officials has not changed, why do you now assume things will get better?
ReplyDeleteBecause of all of the new policies brought forward by William Waters, recently approved by the Commission and people like Mitch above.
ReplyDeleteI hope this guy isn't commuting from Ft Pierce in a city vehicle . . .
ReplyDeleteDang, commuting every day from Fort Pierce to Lake Worth EVERY day to make our city a better place to live. He must be pulling down a pretty hefty salary to be that commited to make "our city a better place to live". Can't he get a job in Ft. Pierce and make Ft. Pierce a "better place to live?" Wander what his house in Ft. Pierce looks like?
ReplyDeleteDiaz fired from Pahokee, sued to get her job back, failed. Kuntzman fired from WPB, sued to get a job back, failed. It's about leadership qualities, establishing positive goal & team oriented communication with the investors that own many of the rental properties. LW ends up wiht the people that cant' get a job anywhere else !!! Pahokee ? Get Real !
