Politics and Punks - Lake Worth Commission

Comment Up

Before Tuesday night's workshop meeting there were a dozen or so well meaning people who were at City Hall to protest the recent way in which the city manager was fired...her firing was not on the agenda and not an approved part of the agenda. On top of that, no reasons were given for her termination.

At least the news media knows that terminating our city manager IS a big deal and they were there to record the events. It takes time to organize a demonstration. In this case, the entire procedure was rushed and fell flat. Of course and as expected, there is joy from some in the Dirty Dozen who not only are happy that the protest was thin but they absolutely go gaga over anything that involves Scott Maxwell screaming in someone's face.

We all know that what Scott Maxwell did was vindictive. We all also instinctively know that it was connived. You don't fire someone for a difference of opinion or for being strong willed. At that point he had the power to demand that she implement the new commission's policy. He used his new found power in a negative way. She would have implemented the wishes of the commission, perhaps some reluctantly, but it would have been done and she would have found a way. She loved this city and throughout her tenure, she worked double shifts just to get the job done. Fixing something broken as Lake Worth, should not be based on personality contests but about skills and expertise of which she had many.

Perhaps Mr. Bressner can give advice for the city commission to "move forward" and forget that this ever happened and put bad politics aside, but there are plenty of us who will not forget nor will they forgive what was done here by Maxwell and this new commission, not to mention the ungodly expense to the taxpayers of over $200,000. They scream bloody murder about this and that expense but don't mind spending lots of money to fire our city manager in order to hire someone new who knows nothing about our city and its unique problems.

To fire a city manager because of Maxwell's personal hatred, along with Amoroso's campaign lie and Triolo not seeing the forest for the trees, the final Commission insult was making Susan Stanton literally crawl out the door of city hall with her tail between her legs--the most insulting political humiliation I have ever seen.

On Saturday our new "visionary" commission might attempt to justify and explain to the public why they did what they did.

  1. Maxwell's behavior was really weired. I can't understand why he has so much hatred. No one can figure him out. Power craving maniac.
District 1 needs someone qualified to run against him. Unfortunately there have been no people stepping up to the plate. Anyone in District 1 counting on Maxwell to help them on anything might just as well forget about it. What has he done for District 1? What did any politician do? Retha? No sooner do we get rid of one corrupt politician we get one endorsed by her and unchallenged. It is time for District by district voting.

  2. I have always been against district voting. We are such a small city. Boynton Beach has district voting and their commissioners are responsible to those in their district. Perhaps the time has come.

Politicians might reach out to those people where they live rather than the political cronies all over town and out of town. As we all know, College Park controls the elections.

In Boynton Beach, you may only vote for the Commission Seat located in the district where you reside.

This will eliminate a lot of door knocking, a lot of expense and will take some of the corrupt politics out of the election.

    Perhaps it is time.

  3. Scott's always hated her so why the surprise?

  4. College Park does not control the elections the people who vote control the elections. If one area comes out to vote more than another it just means the city needs to educate the electorate that if they want a particular candidate they need to go out and cast a vote for that candidate. if the citizens of College Park care enough about our city to vote then more POWER to them. We all have the the same options, we just need to exercise them.

  5. For all the reasons you cited above, anonymous, College Park in the final analysis, DOES CONTROL THE ELECTION OUTCOME.

My district 1, as an example, is full of snowbirds who are not even down here at this time of year. Most are all back by the first of the year and leave in April after Easter.

But as some of the precincts can't get residents to the polls, College Park can change and move a result to their favor as these people do come out and vote. Some people will never be educated not matter what you do.

If it were district voting, perhaps things could change. It would be up to that candidate to prospect in his district, not count on politicking in College Park.

    That was my point.

  7. Such divise language... When the shoe was on the other foot so to speak, a very different tune was being played. It is interesting that no one wants to hear advice of a city manager who went through the exact same situation - 3-2 vote and no advanced notification.

The protest was weak no matter what excuse is made. If people don't want to move forward, they can stay in the past.

  8. I don't think that the fireing of the city manager was either vindictive OR connived.WE don't know what the final straw was that broke the camels back,so to say.To call Triolo a liar is way out of line, Lynn.Have you talked to her personnally about her actions? I was the recipient of some very bizzare behavior on the part of Stanton. So were you, Lynn.So were A LOT of people.Quite frankly, I hope for her own sake that the woman seeks some professional mental health help. This was not an easy move on the part of our Commissioners. Both Triolo and Amaroso did a lot of soul searching on this issue.Sorry lynn, but I am very relieved that Stanton is gone. She tried to sabotage our neighborhood from the moment she got here.Someone who states, more than once ,that city hall was "HER HOUSE" should not be in a leadership position . Katie Mcgiveron

  9. Also, lynn, P.S. Making sure that Stanton left immediately was nothing personal. ANY time a person in a leadership position is fired, they are escorted out of the building . The same thing was done with Sharon Jackson, for example. A vindictive employee could do irreparable damage .Lynn, you worked in the business world and you of all people should know that this is how things like this are done.Katie Mcgiveron

  10. Katie, you and I will never agree on this just like we do NOT agree on a few commissioners up there. Your right. Thank you for toning down your rhetoric.

Personally, I believe that is was an EASY move for these three as so shown by their actions no matter what they say. You were not there.

I don't need to talk to any one of them. Triolo is to explain. Way too late. The explanation should have happened on December 6. Amoroso did not want to give one. Scott has always been after her like a bull in a china shop.

Unless you are a doctor, I would say that your evaluation of her mental health is just a personal attack. She may have some personality differences but I say evaluate her on her accomplishments and look to the Commission for the failures. They didn't keep her in check.

And don't be surprise when your neighborhood is sabotaged anyway by those you believe are some sort of saints. Don't be surprised when the fire assessment is passed. Don't be too surprised about anything. You know who you are laying with...it was your freewill and vote.

  11. P.S. Katie--The manner in which Maxwell had her leave was ridiculous. I was there. People who mistrust others to this degree usually are untrustworthy themselves. He wanted to stick in the knife. He wanted her to endure the final humiliation from him. That's all it was so don't give me this corporate world crap. Thank you very much.

  12. P.S. Lynn,
This is strange.... I always thought you and Katie were connected at the hip.

  13. Katie and I agree on many, many things. This does not happen to be one of them. I would never call to fire someone because they talked to me in a manner that was less than I expected or for something that was unfounded. Katie is much more emotional than I, one of her qualities that I love about her.

  14. I always used to laugh about how nothing ever worked right in LW, saying to friends "That's part of its charm." The firing of Susan Stanton is no laughing matter, however. LW was lucky to get a competent person (Stanton), who, due to a unique set of circumstance, wasnot likely to leave for greener pastures. The city has never looked better than under her tenure. What was she doing that was so bad that it tipped the scales, which were so heavily weighted in favor of keeping her around to continue improving the city? I am aghast. What a revolting turn of events for LW

  15. I am really surprised at some who support Maxwell and Amoroso and this situation. I think you should put up a poll and everyone supporting this firing PAY FOR IT through a special tax assessment. That would be fair. Better yet, let's have the threesome pay for it since they like to waste money like this.

  16. The Dirty Dozen? Everyone knows this is symbolic of the irrational side of politics in Lake Worth. These are the same people who have been around for years ruining the city and screeching and hollering about everything--building heights, PBSO, you name it, they make their presence known on a continued basis. They have disdain for anyone who is environmentally conscientious or who wants to keep our beach from further commercialization. They want it their way or no way. They indirectly and directly control, behind the scenes, the directions of Maxwell, Triolo and Amoroso it seems. Maxwell has no idea he is being used because he loves to make, right in your face waves, and these people love his action.
