Commissioner McVoy gets Axe

Comment Up
Commissioner Christopher Mcvoy

Chris McVoy lost his job at South Florida Water Management District Friday, August 12, 2011. He was a Senior Environmental Scientist. "They told me around 11am," he said. "I have worked here since 1995. I've devoted the better part of my career to working on Everglades restoration. I'm pretty disappointed that the governor and legislature have lost their commitment to Everglades restoration. This is just straight politics."

  1. It is unfortunate when ever anyone gets unemployed. I have been there; we all have probably experienced it at least one time in life.

I will not accept any comments that I consider a personal attack towards Commissioner McVoy. This is about his losing his job, not what you believe he has or has not accomplished as a Lake Worth City Commissioner.

  2. Chris, I feel so bad for you. I sincerely hope that you will find a job in your field. If Florida does not see your value, some other State will. It is a sad reality and it is bad politics. Scott is bad for Florida.

  3. Keep your chin up my man. Scott is ruining the State of FL. and is leading the race for the worst governor ever. You were there 15 years. They got rid of the highest paid. Now we all have to pray that our Everglades stays healthy.

  4. I have been dealing with malice, labeling, and bad politics for 10 years, during Board appoitments in spite of my knowldgeable status, as a solid taxpayer for 20 years. I found out ,because I know too much, I learned about what is wrong with the City(result of forensic audits, and what to do with 5 City properties never made to create revenues which would remedy the 10 millage rate and the $4,500,000 Budget deficit.
Those who never contributed such vital knowledge, which would have caused tax relief to us high tax payers and the poor who are made to suffer more, unnecessarily, those only costing the City, were appointed!

  6. I don't know why anyone is surprised that Gov. Voldemort and his pals are trying to dismantle the SWFMD. They hate the environment, the everglades and would prefer that their friends in big Ag an big Rock and Quary "redevelop" this wonderful area that we should be protecting and treasuring.

While I agree that state, county, and local benefits need to be brought into line with what is provided in private sector, I generally think that most of our public sector workers do a pretty good job. And SWFMD was a great agency and its a real shame, look forward to more droughts and running out of drinking water under Scott.

  7. Oh, I hope Christopher is not going to have to leave town to find a job....but I am sure that possibility looms.
With his degrees he should hopefully be able to find a job quickly.
