March to Target Florida Unions

Comment Up
Lake Worth is not alone when it comes to reducing benefits of union workers in order to stay afloat. Four out of our five elected officials have supported the City Manager's goal to reduce union benefits by supporting her Budget.

Only days into this year’s session, House and Senate lawmakers have taken up three bills that would weaken the teacher’s labor organization, restrict the political clout of all public unions, and reduce the benefits of all state workers.

Read about it here.

  1. Actually, the final vote on the budget was 3-2 with Jennings and Maxwell dissenting.

  2. Jessica--
I stand corrected if you are considering the Budget for 2010/2011 that was approved last Sep. You are absolutely right. I just keep giving credit to Maxwell for all the dissension. They are, however, all agreeing now with Stanton with her budget suggestions other than Maxwell. Not too sure how he will go with this.

  3. Assuming that the Mayor and/or a Commissioner reads you blog Lynn, haven’t you just violated the Sunshine Law by representing how a vote will be cast on a future matter.

  4. I'm not an elected official or a member of a Board so I have violated nothing. In fact, and as usual, I have no idea what you are talking about...do you? Please adhere to comment policy. Thanks very much :)

  5. Actually Lynn, I think you are in violation as you represented how some elected officials were going to vote on a future agenda item. My understanding of the Sunshine Law is that you would be considered to be a vehicle for transferring that information to other elected officials before they voted if in fact it could be proven that they read your blog......in violation of the Sunshine Law.
You may take solice in the fact that I am not a member of the Florida Bar nor am I heavily experienced in this matter. Just saying....

  6. Actually, Jack, you are just too smart for your own good sometimes. You go to city commission meetings as do I although not as many. You can witness the trend of the commissioners and which way they are leaning. You can also witness that they never listen to me at all and never act on one thing I request. I suppose Obama votes in the way his favorite news media want him to vote. Do you see just how off in left field that thinking is? Saying any more about your statement dignifies it.

  8. Are we to assume that this is the Jack Symons who speaks occasionally at comission meetings and always has the answers to everything? No one knows anything but Jack. Good thing you're not a lawyer as you would be laughed out of town.
