Lake Worth CRA

Comment Up

Toxic, as Susan Stanton would say, is the only way to describe last night’s city commission meeting on the CRA issue.

One thing that this proved, everything is political in Lake Worth and if you do not organize, you will fail. It was the side of unreason that organized, the side that had to retain the power at all costs...the side that tossed all the insults at the Commission, the very body that appointed them to begin with, some of whom who have had their own special favors from past CRA Boards, receiving taxpayer money. CRA members as well as their friends tossed one abusive and contemptuous statement, one after another, towards our Commission. Other than members Ed Grimm and Jessica Rockstein, it was one mean bunch that wanted to retain the status quo continuing on with bad business decisions, using taxpayer dollars. Afterall, it’s not their money.

No one can debate an issue in this city. They have to be rude beyond imagination even going to the point of being nasty to another resident of this City and mimicking her. It was outlandish behavior and he was allowed to continue his speech at the lectern. He should have been asked to leave. Two wrongs don’t make a right and a President of a neighborhood association needs to rise above the bull. What happened to the civility idea? Their onslaught of contemptuous attacks prevailed with the CRA remaining an Independent Board.

The only reason that it remained as such is because someone suggested that the NSP2 grant money with HUD would/could be in jeopardy, more than likely, probably, possibly, who knows…you have to take back the CRA first and then tell HUD, you can’t ask anything of HUD without a problem. The seed of doubt was planted and it snowballed into an idea that they felt must have had some merit. No one in authority disputed it. No one found out if it was true. It was suggested that even calling HUD to find out, was the wrong thing to do. The Commission caved in. The City Commission bought the argument by listening to the Grant writer. No one knows if she is an expert in government law or HUD, a government department with 13,000 employees. Are they all cuckoo and difficult at HUD? The Commission must have thought so. It was a disappointing moment. Our elected officials were conquered and consequently surrendered.

Even Cary Sabol, Chair of the CRA apologized to the Commission saying he didn’t want it to seem like an Us against You and then went right ahead and insulted the Commission. Andy Amoroso, Vice Chair of the CRA ”put-down” the Commission by touting all the CRA’s accomplishments (which many of us believe are anything but) and then asked them, “What has the Commission accomplished?” At that point, I would have voted to take back the CRA.

Cara Jennings was the voice of reason in the chamber but no-one on the Dais listened to her. She always was the smartest knife in the drawer but her time has passed, according to this Commission.

Even though the Commission asked them to "pretty please" and to send them reports and communicate, they secretly smiled to themselves and smirked. Now we are left, once again, with an independent board of CRA members that will do nothing differently. Its Director won't do anything differently. They all learned last night that they don't have to...they can continue spending taxpayer money at will and never return one phone call or give one report on anything. It will be all the same and none on the CRA feels that they need to be accountable to anyone for anything and that is their right.

Amoroso, after insulting the Commission, later asked them to waive fees for an event for which he is involved. He had no shame. He is in the driver's seat.

It was a toxic night and as Herman Robinson said, I am embarrassed by just being here.”

So was I, Herman, but not for your reasons.

  1. Lynn - consider this. The commission can and should attend CRA meetings on a regular basis and they DO NOT! If they, especially Golden and Mulvehill, are so concerned they should attend every meeting. Last night's meeting proved that Cara's three stooges are incompetent fools.

  2. I would be happy to consider that however, I have attended CRA meetings (not lately but I will again) when commissioners have spoken. They were totally ignored--TOTALLY. And now with this new found power, nothing will be different.

  3. The fact that this Commission appointed a newspaper vendor to our unelegant CRA Board, shows their level !
He showed his gutter level by insulting those who trusted and therefore appointed him.He was supposed to report and prevent misuse of Public Money by the hirelings and that Board. He does not even know what that is!To bring misdeeds to the Commission attention. His insults show lack of manners and the gutter quality. The Commission which appointed him must be on his level,or would not have done so.!

  4. Maybe after this grotesque, crude, undignified experience,
the Commission members will appoint proper well-mannered citizens with knowledge of Lake Worth's History, local Urban development and respect for their appointers!

Present Commissioners don't respect any citizen, with the exception of Jo-Ann Golden, though she appoints them!

I encourage their appointees, who showed their guttersnipe, slum background with ditto parentage, personality,to continue insulting their appointers, who love and must appraise them above all proper knowledgeable Citizens.

Bravo slum-dwellers and gutter-snipes! Reward your appointers with your inborn gutter behavior.

    Bravo!

  5. Why does Dee put down Andy because he sells newspapers. Andy owns one of the successful downtown businesses in our city. Andy like many business owners is very upset with the direction this commission is taking our City. He has every right to complain. On the other hand Dee has done very little to work towards solutions to our problems and has insulted almost everyone.

  6. Andy's very upset about our Commission's direction? If that is a true statement, then he needs to understand what they have done and why they did it and why it is the BEST direction. He obviously has not taken the time to learn the facts.

  7. This is amazing. Lynn praises Cara as the "sharpest knife in the drawer", and criticizes citizens and current and former board members who vehemently want this successful board to remain independent (remember they are appointed by the commission after a lengthy interview process) which means they should not be influenced by the POLITICIANS!!! Hello!! That's what we REAL taxpayers want. If any member of the CRA acts in an illegal manner or unethical manner they can be removed by their own board or the ones who appointed them.

Golden had the three votes and it was obvious. I had thought McVoy would at least use his intellect for reason, but there was no reason to change. They are working! The commission is not!

Last time Mulvehill said she had no time for this and that is why it failed then. She has more time NOW?

The toxicity came from our sitting commission and their attitude toward residents. The contempt on Mulvehill's face when citizens were speaking would change to beaming admiration whenever Stanton would speak. I remember watching Cara's face change similarly when one of her communist friends was presenting. She would get this "Alfred E' Newman" look about her.

Yes, Lynn, there were a couple people out of line, and I was embarrassed for them, but most people spoke to the facts as they know them and their opinions with no disrespect intended to the ...

Let's all keep in mind that it is NOT our tax money being spent here, it is our grandkids' and their kids' money. We are being forced to borrow this money to bail out banks as Rene' put it.

But if we don't spend $23 million here, there are any people standing in line with their hand out and I don't mean TR.

  8. I disagree that this Board is successful. The only thing that they are successful at is spending money--other people's. We are in BIG debt on the Gateways and they will be lucky to pay off this loan in these down times. Yes, they brag about getting this Grant and that is fine but look what they have been doing with it...not so fine or at least elements of it are highly questionable. And let's face it--the Board does not take kindly to ANY question.

As far as being mean towards the Vice Mayor, all I can say is that she doesn't have a mean bone in her body. We all could learn a lot from her.

  9. I am always shocked when you credit Cara Jennings for anything positive. This city is a mess because she and her friends did all they could to destroy the tax base. The illegals came here thanks to her and Golden and our property values fell so low that homes are now selling for less than $30,000. That's exactly what she wanted. This city can't survive when less than 1/2 of the properties have to support the other half. The LAST THING THAT CARA AND HER FREINDS WANT IS FOR PROPERTY VALUES TO GO UP. Whatever she can do to prevent this grant from working she will do. Thanks Lynn for your continued support of this nut.

  10. I guess I am just as "shocked" as you are when someone overlooks all the great things Jennings did. I have always written about decisions for which I approve and/or disapprove. I don't go around condemning one person for an entire situation. I certainly don't blame her on the total illegal situation or the 20 people to a room thing. Look to the rest of the open border people. Look to the church. Look to the government for not enforcing federal law. Look to a lot of people, not just Cara Jennings.

In other words, look to the good and there is plenty more of that than the reverse.

I said that she was "sharp," not perfect.

  11. Since the anon above cited several of the negatives, and you happen to agree with them that the open boarder concept is bad, and that it at least helped to create our down slide and giving us the largest decrease in property values in Palm Beach County. She has loaded up our boards with anarchist types that believe in communistic re-distribution of wealth policies that want to keep a third world mentality concentrated here in Lake Worth.
These board memberships tend to carry on the downward spiral long after she leaves office.

Their aim is to create the type of chaos and instability we have right now and will continue to have.

I too have always thought Cara was smart. Long before she ran for office. Just didn't think we'd be stupid enough to elect her..... twice.

Please list "all the great things Jennings did".

I don't think you will need your other hand.

  12. I do not know that the illegal alien situation created the "largest decrease in property values." There are NO facts that suggest that. Cara Jennings was indeed an advocate of illegals, no doubt about that. Once she was out of office, The Mentoring Center that had been in existence for two years, CLOSED. One problem down.

Next--"loaded up our boards with anarchist types"...name them please. One elected official can not destroy an entire city nor can she alone stack the volunteer boards. As I recall she voted FOR John Pickett on the FAB and I believe that she voted for Jessica as well. Is that being an anarchist?

I don't need to name all the good decisions made by Jennings. I have already done that through the years.
