You've heard the expression, 40 years of hard labor. 40 years is a very long time--whether it's working for the same employer or being married. In fact, both are anomalies in today's world.
The average marriage lasts right under 15 years with the length steadily falling over the past 20 years. According to one report, first marriages that end in divorce last about 8 years, on average. So, 40 years is quite an achievement.
Back in 2006 before our economic downturn and huge job loss, the Bureau of Labor reported that people in their 20s changed jobs every 18 months, and CareerJournal reports that 75 percent of all workers are job hunting. Marriage is a job; don't let anyone kid you.
Former Commissioner Retha Lowe renewed her 40 year wedding vows to her husband Grady last Saturday. I always like to see relationships work out and am forever amazed when they do. Even in Lake Worth, Mrs. Lowe represented District 1 for 12 years with Commissioner Scott Maxwell beating her out for one term back in (I'm guessing) 2001? Even her service to the residents of Lake Worth was long.
Some of her interesting wedding invitees were former Commissioner Mac McKinnon and his wife, former Commissioner Bo Allen and MaryAnne and Bruce Webber, friends with long-time marriages.
I still kept wondering if anyone from Sun Recycling was there, a former marriage made in hell.

ReplyDeleteI was hired to do the photography. It was a lovely event with family and friends coming together. It was beautiful to see her family as the bridal party, her sons and daughters and grandchildren. All in white and red and Retha looked stunning in her wedding dress. She had a glow about her that gave her a youthful appearance and a smile that light up the whole room. Everyone dancing and having a great time. Celebration of love and life!
