Something as simple as setting a ballot initiative was scratched.
Deciding to take a break from City Hall today, I was at lunch at John G's and did not go to the Noon meeting. No sooner did I return home when the phone rang--Commissioner Jennings was not happy with the ballot language on 2009-18 to secure public recreation as the primary use of the Lake Worth Beach.
"I know you're going to hate me for this but I"m not happy with it," said Commissioner Jennings to Interim City Attorney Elaine Humphreys.
Where does this leave this amendment keeping our beach recreation, eliminating commercial development and residential building from being on our beach? In suspension. They didn't vote it down. The Mayor simply went on to the next ballot initiative, 2009-19 that was passed regarding no dredge and fill.
God she was in charge of this whole thing. I think we need a better explanation other than she was not happy with it. Come on commissioner.
ReplyDeleteShe wants a building off the coastal construction line. That is what this is all about. What was wrong with the rest of the commission?
ReplyDeleteWhat I can conclude from it all, as I was not there, is the wording was not specific enough and would have protected uses under BAC zoning which is open-ended and commercial. Until it is written to protect our ancillary beach uses and our park from further commercialization, it is wise to wait until we get it right.
