Jordan makes short-lived arrest

Jordan, a country that tolerates the Muslim Brotherhood, took a stand against the Muslim Brotherhood Deputy Head who criticized the UAE for declaring the Brotherhood as a terrorist group.

Read about the arrest... and the Brotherhood's demand that he be released. Soon after that, Jordan capitulated and released Zaki Bani Rushaid.

No wrong-doing in Benghazi says Intelligence Committee

According to an Associated Press article, a two-year investigation by the Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee has found that "the CIA and the military acted properly in responding to the 2012 attack on a U.S. diplomatic compound in Benghazi, Libya, and asserted no wrongdoing by Obama administration appointees."

The House Intelligence committee says that "no stand down order was given." This report should help Hilliary Clinton in her quest to be the next president of the U.S.

Winnie the Pooh got pooed

It's not only this country that has a lot of weirdos with some  totally far-out whacky ideas...now comes a playground in Poland.

They have just banned Winnie the Pooh for being an inappropriate hermaphrodite -- a cartoon bear that has dubious sexuality--that is inappropriately dressed? You can't make this stuff up.

This is not a Polish joke!

Obama. "We the People"

Comment Up

President Obama announced that he plans to grant amnesty to nearly 5 million illegal immigrants by executive fiat. With the stroke of his pen, he will circumvent the Constitution, the will of the American people, and the tradition of separation of powers, says Dan Patrick. Just come on in folks, Obama and every socialist alive loves you and wants to take care of you and believe that you deserve a better life at the expense of American citizens.  This is, after all, the land of the free.

The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows that 46% of Likely U.S. Voters approve of President Obama's job performance. Fifty-three percent (53%) disapprove (see trends). The latest figures include 22% who Strongly Approve of the way Obama is performing as president and 41% who Strongly Disapprove. This gives him a Presidential Approval Index rating of -19.

Can't wait to see what his rating will be today.

Sierra Club files suit against St. Johns River Water Management District

Sierra Club Files Suit against the St. Johns River Water Management District for Violating the Public Trust

Sierra Club has filed suit in Orlando federal court asserting that the St. Johns River Water Management District (SJRWMD), the designated grantee of conservation easements in over 30 federal mitigation banks, has created a rule for itself that allows it to remove conservation easements from federal mitigation banks. Also, in the case of Farmton Mitigation Bank, the largest mitigation bank in the United States, SJRWMD has allowed over 1,000 acres to be removed from the bank. Sierra’s complaint asserts that these actions violate the Supremacy Clause of the US Constitution.

Mitigation banks are a cornerstone of the federal Clean Water Act, which mandates a policy of zero net loss of wetlands. Each year, the federal government issues permits to destroy thousands of acres of wetlands and still claims “zero net loss.” How can this be? The federal government claims confidence in its wetlands protection system because, under the Clean Water Act, when wetlands are permitted to be destroyed for development, the permittee buys credits in a wetlands mitigation bank. The wetlands in these banks are supposed to be protected in perpetuity—forever.

Under the Clean Water Act, SJRWMD is required to protect land that has been entrusted to it in the form of conservation easements on behalf of federal mitigation banks. A conservation easement is a contract that requires the perpetual conservation of the land in its most ecologically beneficial state.

Through its acceptance of conservation easements, SJRWMD agrees to ensure perpetual conservation of the mitigation bank land on behalf of past and future credit purchasers in order to offset wetland destruction related to development projects.

Mitigation banks can be a lucrative business. Sierra Club has documented credit costs ranging from about $20,000 to $90,000 per credit. Not only private developers, but also many local, state and federal road and infrastructure projects, purchase credits.

SJRWMD has passed a rule enabling it to remove conservation easements from federal mitigation banks. This rule violates the Federal Clean Water Act which mandates perpetual conservation of federal mitigation banks.Mitigation banks, when managed appropriately, could be a win-win for the environment, and for owners of mitigation banks who are paid for not developing, and instead protecting and restoring land to offset wetland destruction elsewhere. The viability of the bank is destroyed when land is withdrawn on a patchwork basis to allow more development.

“SJRWMD has violated the public trust by creating a rule that allows land to be released from Farmton Mitigation Bank and other federal mitigation banks in direct violation of the Clean Water Act.” asserts Betty O’Laughlin Executive Committee member of Sierra Club in Volusia County. “If wetland destruction is going to be allowed, mitigation banks must be respected. They can’t be a joke. By filing this case, Sierra Club is working to protect the integrity of mitigation banks here and throughout the United States.” The complaint and exhibits can be viewed here.

Lake Worth commission still pushing for national ballfield at John Prince Park - Treachery behind the Scenes

Comment Up

Well, hit me over the head with a baseball bat--

Even though the Astros and Nationals have twice ruled out John Prince Park as a site for a national ballfield (too small), the City of Lake Worth is still pushing it behind the scenes (at the direction of this Commission other than McVoy) and spending taxpayer dollars for the city attorney to solicit/convince other cities to stand behind Lake Worth in its pursuit to commercialize a beautiful county park.  Lake Worth officials get infuriated when they hear the word "no."

Not once did any elected official call anyone in the ROLOH neighborhood that is situated directly across from JPP to discuss this.  It certainly is the District 1 commissioner who wants this and is willing to throw this neighborhood (that is in his district) under the bus.. Not once did Shelley Vana call to listen to the ROLOH neighborhood concerns. Not once did Vana call and talk to anyone in Lake Osborne Estates about this. As we don't get any city manager reports and haven't since Michael Bornstein was hired, nor do we hear from the city attorney, we have to wonder what else is happening out of the sunshine.

Talk about putting the cart before the horse--it was only a month ago that the Palm Beach County Commission made a bold move by approving financing for the teams in spite of the fact they had not found a site.  It was then that the teams admitted that they had looked at John Prince Park a lot and couldn't figure out how it would work. I wouldn't be surprised if we learn next that Lake Worth paid to have plans drawn up and gave them a set or that the County Commission with Vana now elected as mayor and in her last year before term limits take effect, will hand over the entire park. That could be her last hurrah.

Quote of the Day - John Boehner

“Instead of working together to fix our broken immigration system, the president says he’s acting on his own.  That’s just not how our democracy works.   The president has said before that ‘he’s not king’ and he’s ‘not an emperor,’ but he’s sure acting like one.  And he’s doing it a time when the American people want nothing more than for us to work together.”

Greenfield, California and Wind Power

Comment Up

And speaking of Greenfield, California, Susan Stanton is in the news about renewable energy. This is a state that is conducive to and produces wind energy. The levelized cost of energy from wind turbines in 1993 was about 7.5 cents per kilowatt/hour. With current wind research and development efforts, the Energy Commission estimates that newer technologies can reduce the cost of wind energy to 3.5 cents per kilowatt-hour.

GREENFIELD — The City Council is considering the financial viability of a Greenfield Wine Turbine Facility and have decided to have the city manager analyze the matter further.

“We have a really good wind corridor and it would be financially advantageous to build and sell this energy back to an investor, in this case PG&E,” said City Manager Susan Stanton. Read about it...

Stats on llegal Alien Criminals

Because of politics, we have not been able to resolve this assault and now Obama wants to go around Congress. Some stats on illegal alien criminals (of course, they ALL are criminals for simply walking across our border)
In FY 2013:

  • ICE conducted a total of 368,644 removals
  • ICE conducted 133,551 removals of individuals apprehended in the interior of the U.S.
  • 82 percent of all interior removals had been previously convicted of a crime
  • ICE conducted 235,093 removals of individuals apprehended along our borders while attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S.
  • 59 percent of all ICE removals, a total of 216,810, had been previously convicted of a crime.
  • ICE apprehended and removed 110,115 criminals removed from the interior of the U.S
  • ICE removed 106,695 criminals apprehended at the border while attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S.
  • 98 percent of all ICE FY 2013 removals, a total of 360,313, met one or more of ICE's stated civil immigration enforcement priorities
  •  Of the 151,834 removals of individuals without a criminal conviction, 84 percent, or 128,398, were apprehended at the border while attempting to unlawfully enter the U.S. and 95 percent fell within one of ICE's stated immigration enforcement priorities.
The leading countries of origin for those removed were Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.

Crime downtown Lake Worth

Although we have an overall interest in the rising crime throughout the country especially committed by illegal aliens, we are not the least bit interested in crimes in Greenfield, California. But we do acknowledge the fact that we have a lot of crime in Lake Worth and too many to mention. Below is one that just happened in our downtown.

Obama and Illegal Immigrants

Obama to address the nation on Amnesty

Comment Up

Tonight, President Obama will exercise executive overreach. Our imperial highness will grant amnesty to 5 million illegal aliens. This expected action is probably the easiest and most unchallenging way to handle the mess by our president who refuses to work with Congress and a hell of a way to get Democratic voters. Read about it...

Florida has seen the biggest rise of illegal residents in the U.S.  We notice it every time we go shopping--people speaking in Spanish. We notice it when we drive down Lake Avenue with all those STILL hanging out and the area looking like a ghetto. The recent murals painted on the shuffleboard court building show a south of the border appeal to all those living in the area. With all of this illegal migration, sometimes you get the feeling that you are living in another country. Crime is on the rise in the poorer parts of our city.

According to BizPac, the total number of illegal immigrants living in the United States hasn’t changed much since 2009. However, where they choose to settle is changing, according to a new report from the nonprofit Pew Research Center. The recent report shows Florida with the biggest increase of illegal aliens.

"Between 2009 and 2012, some 55,000 new illegal aliens came to Florida. That brings the state’s total to an estimated 925,000. The increase highlights a broader shift from the West and Southwest. Only New Jersey saw a larger increase, with about 75,000 people." Read more...

According to Rasmussen Reports, Sixty-two percent (62%) of voters already have signaled that they oppose the president granting amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants without the approval of Congress, and 55% think Congress should challenge that action in court.

Mazen M. Mokhtar - Believer in violent Jihad

One of the leaders of a new Islamic political party promising to be a “game-changing force” in the 2016 elections was arrested and jailed in 2007 by former U.S. Attorney Chris Christie, who happens to be a GOP frontrunner in the 2016 race for the White House.

Read about this scary group that wants to bring us all down but is protected in our own country by United States laws.

PB County Environmental Coalition

Today in the local section of the Palm Beach Post is an article on the Palm Beach County Environmental Coalition and its planned protest at the Briger site on December 5.  The Coalition says, "If completed, the development would destroy the 681-acre Briger Forest, one of the largest unprotected forests of its size in the southern region of the state."

This group is an active group that speaks out on the injustices in our society and looks out for our environment and natural resources.  Sometimes, during their enthusiasm, they get arrested for such things as disturbing the peace or tree hugging, etc. They are always polite but stand up for their convictions, something that the status quo and developer enthusiasts absolutely abhor.

An excerpt from Panagioti Tsolkas co-chair, PBC Environmental Coalition on 7th Avenue South and the City of Lake Worth's desire to pave it over all for the convenience of the development, La Joya Villages:

When I went out to knock on doors in the neighborhood surrounding 6th Avenue South yesterdayspreading the word about an attempt to pave a new roadI was reminded of the years I spent in the area working with families in a community garden on 6th Avenue and F Street.   After 8 years of growing fruits, vegetables and community bonds, the land we had worked was bulldozed, in 2007, by the forces of greed and indifference.

Read the rest of this article. We have a segment in our city who believe that everything should be paved or built higher. This is Panagioti's story and it's worth the read to understand the other side of this argument.

Money and Politics

It's so difficult to elect good people--people who have common sense as well as growth management sense and those looking out for the welfare of the residents. It takes a lot of money to win in Palm Beach County and it definitely pays to be a Democrat in a County where Democrats far outweigh Republican voters by nearly 132,000.

The Palm Beach County Commission lost a good one when it lost Jess Santamaria to term limits. Most  on the PB County dais couldn't stand him. He tried to hold them to a higher standard. Yesterday Melissa McKinley, Democrat, was sworn in to replace Santamaria. She raised $394,938.28 to become commissioner, with donations from contractors, Realtors, Attorneys, Lobbyists, Unions and even Sun Recycling companies (they're everywhere). Jess's daughter, running as an Independent, Michelle Santamaria, only raised $54,496.  You can't win without money and no Party backing.

Paulette Burdick was passed over to be the next mayor.  Priscilla Taylor, outgoing mayor, nominated Shelley Vana instead...another commissioner who is development oriented at the expense of the residents who live here. The vote was 5/2 with Burdick and Abrams voting nay.

The way I see it, we have one definite commissioner looking out for the people--  Democrat Paulette Burdick. And there is a hope in Republican Abrams especially if he watches developer creep in the Ag Reserve.

As Burdick said, "It is apparent that there is a majority on the Board that is pro-development to a fault."
