Should Lake Worth Beach commissioner use city meetings to raise Alligator Alcatraz concerns
His colleagues say no
In the wake of the federal immigration crackdown, Lake Worth Beach City Commissioner Christopher McVoy has used his elected position to spread awareness about the fear and anxiety gripping the city’s large Latino community which now is 48% of the city. We allowed all these non-citizens to enter our city.At City Commission meetings and public pre-agenda work sessions, he has also shared concerns about Lake Worth Beach residents detained without due process at Alligator Alcatraz, the detention center that popped up this month at a rarely used airbase in Big Cypress National Preserve.
But his public bullhorn is annoying critics who say city meetings aren’t the place for his politically charged commentary.
Citing complaints from residents, Vice Mayor Sarah Malega suggested the commission consider new rules for the kinds of comments individual commissioners give at the end of meetings. The changes would restrict “Commission Liaison Reports and Comments” to topics directly related to Lake Worth Beach business and affairs, not state, federal or international issues.
If the commission approves the rules, McVoy said he’s not sure if he will comply.

If the Hispanic community has "fear and anxiety" as Commissoner McVoy says, then my question would be, "Are they illegal aliens?"
Can you even imagine that our city is made of minorities as the majority now? You have to wonder what our Pioneers would say.
ReplyDeleteMcVoy is a typical Democrat.

DeleteHe can write or call his elected but he needs to focus on the city, he really should go live in Guatemala!
ReplyDelete"Fear and anxiety gripping the city’s large Latino community" Why are they afraid? Are they here illegally? If so, then I'm GLAD they're afraid. CRIMINALS SHOULD BE AFRAID !!! I want Florida law makers to make it a law that only American citizens will be enrolled in our schools.NO BENEFITS AT ALL to people in our country that are here illegally. McVoy better keep his mouth shut and his head down. The more he shines the light on the illegals here in Lake Worth, the more likely it is that ice will show up.Lets hope so.
ReplyDeleteSo, he should be ignorant of what is going on around us?
ReplyDelete@5:57... the Commision wants him to focus on Lake Worth issues, not national. No one cares about his opinion on Alligator Alcatraz where criminals are being housed prior to deportation. It must be a very small minority of people defending illegal criminals, the very ones who let them into our country to begin with...20 million thereabouts. If you don't have borders, you don't have a country. No one would call Christopher "ignorant," just a liberal.
ReplyDeleteSorry but Liberals are ignorant and they're Godless too, don't call them intelligent at all because they're not they let their emotions control most of what they do and say and how they live and there's no intelligence to this! If you're a liberal left leaning who doesn't want Law and Order, then you don't have any intelligence at all!
DeleteI actually heard the facility wasn't all that bad. Probably better than where they were living.
