While hardworking Americans struggled to make ends meet, a corrupt government official was living high on the hog with taxpayer money.Roderick Watson, a 57-year-old contracting officer for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), pleaded guilty to taking bribes in exchange for steering over $550 million in government contracts to his criminal conspirators.
The Justice Department announced that Watson and three corporate executives orchestrated this massive fraud beginning in 2013.
Watson didn’t just pocket a few thousand dollars under the table.
The bribes included cash payments, thousands of dollars in tickets to a suite at an NBA game, laptops, cellular phones, a country club wedding, down payments on two residential mortgages, and jobs for Watson’s relatives.
They all got sweetheart deals...
