Boynton Beach Commission to make Resolution to support Atlanta Braves at John Prince Park

Comment Up

We understand that Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell is still barrelling around with his baseball bat and lobbying neighboring governments to support the Atlanta Braves coming to John Prince Park...getting all his little ducks in a row.   The next city that is affected by his bullying is Boynton Beach.

How many cities have been honored by his presence now?  Lake Worth, Greenacres, Atlantis, Palm Springs, Lantana...did I miss one?

On Boynton's Consent Agenda Tuesday night (that means zero discussion of the item just like Lake Worth) is a resolution to support the Braves and perhaps inadvertently (which I doubt) advocating for the bulldozing of John Prince Park as well as the taxpayer picking up the tab for this corporate welfare scheme in the tune of $110  million for their stadium. The County won't even make any tax dollars off of this...just its citizens  paying through the nose.

Matters in this section of the Agenda are proposed and recommended by the City Manager for
"Consent Agenda" approval of the action indicated in each item, with all of the accompanying
material to become a part of the Public Record and subject to staff comments

C. PROPOSED RESOLUTION NO. R16-076 - Supporting the Atlanta Braves returning to Palm
Beach County for their spring training at John Prince Park.

Perhaps Boynton Beach commissioners will have some sense and actually do their homework unlike Lake Worth and other surrounding city councils.

Scottie boy wants that million plus finders fee!! As long as this is up for grabs there is NO WAY I will vote for their tax increase. You can't cry poor mouth to me and at the same time entertain a $110-250 million dollar give away to a billionaire corporation. All we know about how this increase is to be spent is that schools are to get a portion, and municipalities, and presumably some to be spent on our crumbling infrastructure. This pay-to-play culture has already taken quite enough from the taxpayers of this county, including honest representation of their interests over their commission special interest donors. Watch this keep coming back up as long as little Billie Maxwell is out scouting for his million dollar fee. And check out who is wining and dining with him before you vote in November.

There is no million dollar payday for "anyone" who 'brings the Braves home'

How crazy of an idea is this?

How in the world would you identify the actual one person that might even remotely be the key or lynchpin that all of a sudden magically weaves the magic carpet to take this ride.

The mere notion of such a 'reward', 'commission' or any other renumeration is a silly expenditure yielding poorly formed logic, proliferating the digital ether by this blog. Waste of time, unless you're looking to diminish the level of your street creds

The info is out there and the finders fee HAS BEEN PAID by the ball club in the past!Do YOUR research! Everything about this is not silly it is sick, twisted and disgusting.! The notion of treating a Public park like a piece of pork to be carved up and fed to politicians sugar daddies, Maxwell driving around south Florida ,swinging his baseball stadium lies, disgusting! All Maxwell has done is made himself and some gullible greedy downtown Lake Worth businesses look foolish. Not to mention most of the area politicians who now have egg on their faces.

To 12:01 apparently you are not interested in doing a little research before spouting off multisyllabic denials based on your own superior opinion. Please research Bloomberg Business Magazine and read the quite damning article on how ball clubs obtain free stadiums, the rewards for those organizing this flim flam, and especially the Braves behavior. The myth is this is good for those who get caught with the bill. The truth is closer to a losing proposition catering to everyman's idealistic dream of baseball as our great American Dream. Chasing this little boy's dream has resulted in bankrupt cities. However, the Braves always come out on top, as well as the "finders." Sorry to burst your bubble. It's just the business of baseball.
