Scott Maxwell Swinging his Bat

Comment Up

On April 25, the Town of Lantana passed a resolution to support the Atlanta Braves at John Prince Park. This had a lot to do with the encouragement of the Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners as well as the City Commission of Lake Worth along with city manager, Michael Bornstein who are all lobbying heavily for this travesty.

a (2). Consideration of Resolution No. R-05-2016, supporting the location of the Atlanta Braves spring training baseball facility in South Central Palm Beach County. Note, the agenda item did not mention John Prince Park--they are trying to fool the public. John Prince Park as the location was in the Resolution.

Mayor Stewart asked for disclosures.

Vice Mayor Aridas and Councilmember Balfour disclosed they spoke with a few neighbors, Councilmember Deringer disclosed he signed Lake Worth Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell’s baseball bat and Mayor Stewart disclosed he spoke with residents, Michael Bornstein and Shelley Vanna.

Mr. Lohman read the resolution title:

RESOLUTION NO. R-05-2016
A RESOLUTION OF THE TOWN COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF LANTANA, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE LOCATION OF THE ATLANTA BRAVES SPRING TRAINING BASEBALL FACILITY IN SOUTH CENTRAL PALM BEACH COUNTY AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.

Mayor Stewart introduced this item on the agenda.
City of Lake Worth Vice Mayor Scott Maxwell gave an introduction of the agenda item and answered questions from Town Council.

No individuals from the public commented on the agenda item.
There was Council discussion.

Councilmember Deringer made a motion to approve Resolution No. R-05-2016.
Councilmember Balfour seconded the motion.

Motion passed 4-1 (Councilmember Moorhouse- Nay).

If he doesn't swing his bat then he's swinging his big mouth. He has to be the meanest individual ever. he now believes he owns this town.

Very stupid Council members. They are suposed to be looking out for their citizens, not doing stupid deals that put their citizens on the hook for millions of taxpayer dollars to be given to a Billionaire baseball club. Sick.

Scott Maxwell is a greedy sick bastard. Study after study shows how BAD these corporate welfare boondoggles are for the towns on the hook for them. Maxwell doesn't care. Any guesses as to why???

No worries the Braves aren't going to JPP. You will be happy to know the county is looking to put a Homeless Shelter right in yours and Katie's neighborhood. That will solve all your concerns, the park will be quiet, clean, and the tortoises won't be eaten by the vagrants anymore because they will get 3 hots and a cot (3 meals and a bed). How do I know? Just ask anyone in Atlantis. That is why they voted for baseball.

The mayor of Atlantis is a growth HO just like most politicians. He wants to see South Congress developed, even a hotel there. What a dunce. Actually no one in Atlantis really knew anything about their resolution and some are totally outraged.

John Prince Park is a great park...you should visit it sometime. Workout, walk, play tennis, golf, kids playing basketball, campgrounds, see the beauty and the families enjoying our great public park.

As far as vagrants, we have ten times that right in the heart of our downtown. Solve the problem for the Homeless and stop making up false narratives.

Yo Lynn, it's not speculation... The Homeless Coalition of Palm Beach is all in for putting up more homeless shelters and has been looking at John Prince Park for some time. That was one major reason for hosting one of their homeless events last year nearby, and why they had such problems locating space large enough in Lake Worth for this one day event.

Why John Prince Park? Because the county owns it, it's far easier to get their consensus on this hot topic at the county commission level versus dealing with every little municipality - and you know the county is exactly where it belongs, along with State support... this is not a burden the City of Lake Worth is to be saddled with, besides, no where within the City of Lake Worth limits is there enough property to 'DONATE' to deal with a national issue.

I'm thinking JPP and Okeeheelee Park are excellent selection sites for central Palm Beach County, they both have excellent bus service, lots of businesses nearby that might hire some of them, and fire rescue is super close by. Even the mere suggestion that the City of Lake Worth be responsible for a site to be donated, and then to foot the bill on housing the county's or the country's homeless is ludicrous. Same goes for putting up an encampment, or a bunch of tiny homes or flop houses where the druggies and drunks can seek refuge from their street living arrangements while they still abuse drugs and alcohol is just crazy.

And you're right Lynn, there are way to many vagrants and high as a kite shufflers lurking in downtown. They need to be herded to other areas where they can waste their sorry ass lives away. And now I understand that the Feds are recommending that elementary schools to colleges, every police cruiser and fire truck, they even said that every medicine cabinet in the country should start carrying the Narcan spray to reverse the the opioid/heroin/overdose, hell they want it to be over the counter so that all the druggies can load up on the Narcan and then go get high. It's totally sick... and who pays? we do, dumb ass tax paying citizens.

This is shocking... nearly 1/2 of all U.S. states have passed laws granting wider access to the generic naloxone and doctors in those states can prescribe naloxone to friends and family members of opioid abusers. The cost of a dose is just over $3, but the price to law enforcement, fire/rescue, us... has increased to over $1100, in 2013 there were 188 programs nationwide that distributed 100,000 doses. This year alone we've seem a 425% increase over first quarter 2015 just in Palm Beach county... and this big Pharma company, Amphaster Pharmaceuticals has got a monopoly on production of this life saving drug. I guess I should go buy some stock...

Excellent sites? Our public parks? I don't think so. I know that the county is talking about building a homeless shelter but not at JPP. And of course, we don't have the space in LW. Just because the Homeless Coalition might want our county park, doesn't mean that they will get it. It seems billionaires want it too. Of course you are dealing with Vana and friends. Who knows?

Thanks for your informative post.

Hey anon at 1:26 there's just one little problem, JPP is deed restricted. The powers that be way back when knew there would come a day when the greedy Ho's would try to suck our public park away. As for the small area that is not deed restricted ,the land off Congress you're talking about is way too valuable to put a homeless shelter there. Awww too bad,so sad . There's a large vacant lot in Atlantis. Maybe the Govt. will make the city put affordable or work force housing there.

This is the first I have heard about a new homeless shelter. Thanks for the information. Unfortunately, until we attack the root cause of our mushrooming homeless problem, it will continue to multiply. It's all about urinating money. Literally. And scumbag slumlords. They buy up foreclosures, make them into a "Sober Home" charge $1500 a pop for urine testing, sometimes testing daily, ( and I've even heard sometimes 3 X a day) rent out to 6 or 10 persons coming out of formal rehab and they can make a small fortune. Up to $2.5 million yearly. They can get a "CLIA waiver Certificate", buy a test kit at the drugstore, and charge the $1500. Or some take it to labs and get kickbacks. That's the money train. They fly them in from out of state to complete treatment and transition in "sunny Florida." Heard some even have needles in the bathroom. The one down the street from me just had a young girl from Maryland die there at 1410 Hillcrest of an overdose. When they use bam--they're out on our streets, addicted again, far from home. So we're collecting and making homeless from all over the country. It's a real mess.
