Living Right in Lake Worth - Sober Home

Comment Up

A few weeks ago, this house was featured for its colors and its Florida murals. The landscapers are just about finished and they just put up a little white picket fence.

Living Right Sober Homes. The owners, first opened their business with the State on 7-15-13 in the name of Living Right Consulting, LLC. They first learned of substance abuse by some family members going through an addiction problem. People in recovery have a greater chance of staying sober when they take up residence with other recovering addicts/alcoholics who are committed to staying clean or so they say. Is it the kids who are committed or is it their parents with good intentions and at their wits end?

"Living Right facilitates six sober living houses; three for men and three for women. With multiple tiers of structure, Living Right is now able to assist everyone, wherever they are in recovery. From the beginning, the drive to help those struggling with substance abuse still stands first and foremost in the hearts of Steve, Melissa, and the house leaders."

There is no scientific proof that sober homes work. As there is easy access to drugs today and heroin addiction is on the rise (the drug of choice), a lot of these kids have good intentions but soon relapse and are out on the streets. And just like a bloodhound, drug dealers know where these homes are located and addicts know how to get their fix. Anywhere there is money to be made, there are people with bad intentions.

"Four in five new heroin users started out misusing prescription painkillers. As a consequence, the rate of heroin overdose deaths nearly quadrupled from 2000 to 2013. During this 14-year period, the rate of heroin overdose showed an average increase of 6% per year from 2000 to 2010, followed by a larger average increase of 37% per year from 2010 to 2013". My other concern I have with this particular house is its location--100 yards from Lake Worth High School's campus. There should be something in our code disallowing this type of business to be near a school.

INVESTIGATE HOW MANY PEOPLE IN THESE SOBER HOME GO TO THE KAVA BAR TO GET FU--UP AND THERE IS A REASON BLOODWORK DOES NOT SHOW THIS-----GET IT EVERYONE ----YOU HAVE HAD ENOUGH TIME TO FIGURE OUT WHATS GOING ON AND ITS VERY SIMPLE ---SO LOOK INTO IT

"There should be something in our code disallowing this type of business to be near a school."

Because?

People cleaning up and trying to lead better lives are a bad influence on younger folks? Because younger folks are a bad influence on people trying to clean up? Stats? Studies? Any reason at all?

Anon at 8:22: caps lock on. next week we'll cover "cut and paste."

Thanks for the info ,Lynn. There is probably an ordinance on the books about this location near a school already on our books, but when was code in Lake Worth ever actually enforced for anything other than political vendetta?
Why in the hell would a family send a recovering addict to FRIGGIN SOUTH FLORIDA FOR GOD"S SAKE???
These centers should be in the middle of North Dakota or maybe Kansa, IN THE WINTER !
Our Legislature should pay for full page adds in Northern newspapers publishing the death rates for Heroin overdoses in Palm Beach County.

You do that, anonymous at 8:44.

Great idea about advertising in northern newspapers. This city is way too hypocritical to ever be truthful.

What is the address?

These so called sober homes are in violation of our short term rental law. They are also in violation of our residential zoning, this is a business not a home.

I don't actually like the way it is painted either. I don't mind key west colors but murals and garish colors should not be permitted at all.

It takes me 6 months to get a roof permit b/c my home is in a historic district, but no one else seems to have to play by the rules. $7000 for a metal roof like many of my neighbors? Nope, my home is historic, the 23 year old that runs the place wants me to replace my roof with metal shingles that cost $23,000. I'm all for maintaining historic district and character, but does anyone really notice regular metal roof vs. metal shingles. Is the City going to help me pay for it. The roof is 80 years old and the City won't let me replace it. But sober homes, flop houses and garish murals are all ok.

Why is this happening to our town???? Who says young people with drug addictions are better off in a flop house in South Florida, sitting around outside all day and all evening, smoking cigarettes?? They should not be here, with so many temptations around and so much time on their hands. Send them to work camps in North Dakota. Have them chop wood. They'll learn what hard work is, and how to make themselves useful surviving on the plains.

@11:19...don't know the address...probably 110 N.A. Street. It is on the corner of North A and Lucerne

Corner of N B st and Lucerne. I don't believe there are any good intentions here not on the part of the addicts their families and especially not on the part of sober house owners. Take away the easy money and watch them disappear.

this is a good ? for the commission workshop tonight

Two bedrooms, there should be no more than four people living in this house. How many are they actually cramming in there. I'm getting close to turning my own LW rental properties into sober homes, I could make a hell of a lot more money and then I wouldn't have to follow any rules.

Lynn Anderson said...

Thanks for the correction--it is No B street, not N A.

No rental license, no business license. The folks who head up this sober home used to be in the tree trimming business, but yeah easy money and screw the community and neighbors.

It seems the politicians don't care because they're not directly affected or they're on the take too.

And I hear that in Lake Worth Hudson Holdings owns some Sober Homes. The favored partner of the Trio, so maybe that's another reason they want to ignore this.

Lynn, you're an idiot. Have you ever dealt with any recovery programs? You probably think addicts are homeless, trash living under bridges. You couldn't be more than wrong, and more of the cause of the problem. I guarantee you, a family member or close friend is an addict. After being conned out of $100's of thousands by Recovery programs in South Florida, we started the halfway house/ sober living search. My son was in many that were exactly as you picture. Living Right was the answer we had searched for. Steve and Melissa Johnson are caring, loving and exactly what addicts need after leaving a recovery program - a safe, sober home with accountability and a gentle push back into being productive members of their community.

Have you ever been inside their lovely Living Right homes? Their clean, well run and you are lucky to have them near you. The rest of your neighborhood would surely agree, they'd prefer Living Right as a neighbor than you and your ugly judgements. I know I would!

10:13pm--I'm an "idiot?" I well can understand why you are defending your investment. I also know if you have to resort to name calling, then you have the problem. Sorry your son is an addict. Are you one of the very small minority that is registered in Lake Worth? I would love to hear about your "results" record.

The wall to wall carpeting in living room is torn and stained. It looks like a crack house. Someone rexently died there of an overdose. Not found until 8 hours later. Y roommate. No structure or supervision. They are a disgrace.
