Lake Worth Beach

Comment Up

Where occasionally we see a pelican flying overhead that knows no one has ever said, nor have they mentioned or even had a thought, that the city is "selling our beach." The pelicans at our beach also know that no one has ever said that the city wants to hand over our electric utility to Siemens. This breed of pelican is just a little bit smarter than those inland.

That wonderful pool and the city won't open it or market it. Why?

The city attorney said at the beginning of the ITN meeting that what Hudson Holdings is proposing is a "takeover" of our beach. They want to take it over. They want to control it. They want to build. If they're only allowed to build small at first, they'll later pressure the city to let them EXPAND. That word again. HANDS OFF!
NO to Expansion.
NO to a Takeover.
No more building at our beach!
What about this do TRIOLO, AMOROSO and MAXWELL not understand???

Amen, hands off our beach, no more development there, keep is like a park and nature preserve for us all to enjoy.

The other thing that pisses me off about the beach is the decal parking. There are so many employees from Mulligan's that pay for decals and park all day long in the decal parking taking up space for up to 8+ hours a day, so unfair, they should put a 2-4 hour limit on decal parking per day, there is too much abuse of the parking at our beach.

If that employee is a resident of Lake Worth, they are entitled to buy a resident decal sticker and park there all day just like any other resident. Employee parking is across the street @ $40 a month. It is something that the city did not consider. Szerdi gave non-resident (less than 6 months residency) snowbird property owners the ability to buy decal stickers. In the winter Season, there are plenty of them.

How many times does this have to be said before some of the blog world see the unfairness of people who own homes in the city, who pay property taxes based on market value, not lower taxes because of the benefit of homestead exemption be entitled to the same parking privileges as other residents who pay less taxes or in some case, no taxes? There higher taxes help pay the deficit over there because of the problems with the Casino complex.

This is RESIDENT parking, anonymous at 4:43. You have a big problem paying your taxes based on your value of your property, I see. Paying ad-valorem is the way that it's done in this country.
Our beach decal lot is for residents, even renters who do not own property. Are you one of those "dreaded" one-percenters who feels he's being taken advantage of and paying more than his fair share? :(
No sympathy.
P.S. Why did you allow your house to be foreclosed?

I like the poster wanting the beach to be a nature preserve! You can't make this stuff up! So are we going back to the 1800's? Of all the beaches in Palm Beach County Lake Worth Beach has been least like a nature preserve for a 100 years! Let's see I want a nature preserve, a "re habbed" casino bldg with low rents, lots or free parking for residents, no private businesses, and I don't want to pay for anything. Is there anything else? And our commissioners suck and developer boogey men and women are all paying off everyone at city hall to take away our natural nature preserve beach. Is that about right?

You sarcasm is noted @ 8:21. Is this the vice mayor?
The fact is this--I want the beach, casino and pool to stay as it is and find a tenant for the upstairs space or incorporate that space into one big ballroom and be able to divide the room off like they do at Compass. I would then like the city to market our beach park and attract more people to our casino and pool. No private/public partnerships...no more development...no more commercialization...no private anything.

To answer your question, that is about right!!! We just upgraded our beach park and spent $13 million. Why do you guys continue to want to spend more money and give away control? of everything?

Nope not the vice-ogre. And no i don't want to see more building. We are stuck with a bldg that is flawed and all thanks to a previous administration that tried to play developer when they were anything but! There was an opportunity to make this a viable building but that is in the past so we move on. And we as tax payers will be subsidizing this mistake for many years. The restaurant should have included both an upstairs and down stairs as one tenant space but that to has passed. And 2nd floor rest space will not work well at all, hence no tenants. Maybe the earlier poster wanting a nature preserve is what the citizens want of course along with the bill it will take to subsidize the missteps. Leave it alone and pay for it! Hey we have the money right? Carry on....and on and on...

Ok then, not the Vice mayor. You used his word "boogey man." Peggy Fisher? You really should be brave enough to post under your own name since you are VERY opinionated on this and rather unfair, IMO.

Yes, the tenants were decided under THIS COMMISSION. Were you here when they gave all our "grand-fathered in" tenants such a hard time? Barry almost didn't make the cut. This commission was so offended by his attorney's letter. The got Mamma Mia's instead of NY Pizza because some tenants were slow paying their rent as they were told nearly daily that the building was coming down.

The reason why the upstairs was not rented to Johnny Longboats who wanted the upstairs and down, was the simple reason of control of the building. If that establishment had failed, they would have occupied the largest percentage of space in the building. There is an extremely successful 2nd floor restaurant on Worth Avenue, Cafe le Rope. This is proven fact that a 2nd floor space DOES work.

No commissioner acted as an architect or design expert here, that would be ridiculous. The city relied on the expertise of those who won the RFP which was an exhaustive procedure. Not sure what the city is doing about the builder to correct some defects because we, the public, are never informed about anything.

So, you want to re-live the past, you need to know the facts. So, carry on and on.

Lynn,
You are something. You said no commission acted as a architect or design expert, that's ridiculous. On that one you're right. What they did do is give a design/build maximum cost contract to a builder that had to use "value engineering" techniques, i.e. reduced quality materials, design features and energy saving components to be able to deliver the building to the city while maximizing the profit to the builder. What the city did do during that process was have the assistant city manager supervise the construction. Someone who probably had never even built a birdhouse much less a $13 Million Dollar oceanfront development. When the person building the building has more expertise than the person supervising the construction you end up getting what we ended up with up there. Then you use a PB restaurant that you say is a second floor location, as proof that a 2nd. floor location can work, Cafe le a Rope. The restaurant you were referring to is actually Cafe L'Europe http://www.cafeleurope.com/html/ , they're actually on on S County Rd. It's a single story restaurant with valet parking. They moved from a second floor location to their current location 20 years ago. Lynn, have you hired the former editor of the failed LW tabloid to write your blog on the weekend? Facts? Re-live the past? We need to we can't change the errors of the past. But if we don't remember the past we're bound to make the same mistakes again. Like I love pointing out folks President Lincoln was right when he said, 'You can't believe everything you read on the internet'.

Lynn Anderson said...

Cafe L'Europe was located in the Esperante on Worth Ave at one time--did not know they had moved. Thanks for the research. The point is--they were on a 2nd floor and were for years. Ok, so you want to ignore that and belittle it all and make fun of the fact that I don't frequent Worth Ave as do you. So? they were on a 2nd floor and very popular.

Next, Kathleen Margolis was NOT A SUPERVISOR of this building construction--not even close. Are you joking? She was there to ensure that certain phases were done on time, that sort of thing. Get real, anonymous.

Now this has to be Wes, using terminology like you did in your post. What crap.

As far as the Tribune is concerned, what is your problem? Are you on the payroll of the City of LW? Still on Szerdi's payroll? Can't stand the truth?

Love your cartoon on Wes. It's all so true. His claim to fame is complaining, whining, making up stuff and just plain being rotten to people.

I don't want to leave the Casino the same. I want it bulldozed. It's ugly. It's too big. It draws a horrid crowd. And since the whole thing's a big failure anyway, why not? Let's turn it back into a real park. Maybe just put one rustic beach cafe up there. Sandy floors, no TVs. Mulligans is gross. Come on. And $6 ice cream cones? Give me an effing break.

There are always a few killjoys around here. LOL.
