City Manager Michael Bornstein - Another Love Fest

Comment Up

City Manager, Michael Bornstein was just given a $10,000 raise and an extra week vacation for a total of 4 weeks. He now will make $145,000 a year. He gets $500 a month for his car allowance but lives 3 blocks away. There was a two year contract on the table. The biggest surprise of all was when Scott Maxwell suggested a five year contract and then urged the entire commission to vote in solidarity. The vote was 3/2 with McVoy and Maier dissenting.

Commissioner Amoroso had to personally attack Commissioner Maier by saying that he had a "disconnect in his thinking" when he mentioned that staff had not had raises in years and he was uncomfortable about additional funding for Mr. Bornstein. I know. Truth hurts; it always does with this "visionary." The mayor's advice of being "kind to one another" sure did not resonate.

After listening to the audio, one is lead to believe that the city manager has done wonders with our city over the past three years and that this commission is the real catalyst behind all this achievement in Lake Worth. They compared the job to past commissions...no comparison they say...the past was terrible and they are the movers and shakers having done incredible things to bring us into the 21st Century.  I still say, what are they?

The visionaries are still in love with Michael Bornstein.  And why not.  He tells them what he is going to do based on what the majority has told him to achieve...they listen...his staff implements and meetings are short. Of course, the bond and the heights vote, two extremely dear issues to this majority, failed at the polls in spite of the city manager and administration being heavily involved even with tax dollars to get both passed.

But he's a nice guy they tell us.

Since my name is not Loretta, Wes or Greg, I have never had him answer a call or answer an e-mail. His playing politics will get him into trouble although now he is guaranteed an enormous severance if he is fired. This majority took care of him. hate to think what that pay-out would be.

Please refresh my memory on all of these achievements. I can't think of one. It's true about not answering email.

He does seem like a nice fellow and there have been certain efforts and improvements in the last couple of years. However, he actually doesn't respond to citizens unless you are part of the favored group.

It is really hard for the rest of us to get anyone in City Hall to respond.

Hey has any of you constant complainers thought about the guy is busy. He doesn't have time to listen to Katie's constant bitching. I know him but he doesn't always respond to me either. Bottom line he is doing a 500% better job than Stanton did. I could care less about hearing a managers report at 11pm because of a McVoy and now Ryan time waiting comments.

After Commissioner Scott Maxwell called over half of the voters, including myself, RACISTS, I put in two phone calls to Mayor Pam Triolo.Out of respect for her private life I left messages asking her to contact me at her earliest convenience on her city hall number. Mayor Triolo did not call me back. The next week I sent an e-mail to her city hall e-mail address. No answer from Madame Mayor.Pam Triolo says she constantly responds to her citizens. Actually , Pam does not respond to her citizens. Katie Mcgiveron

While we must admit the city manager's position is not an easy one, let us not forget the rank and file employees... without their hard work and dedication, the city manager would not have been so effective.
By the way, city employees have not had even a cost of living increase since 2009. Hmmmm....

Why do certain citizens feel that the very top of management should take hours out of their days on a regular basis to listen to their complaining and spin on the latest happenings? There is no requirement for them to do so. Why do these individuals think they are so special and so deserving? It is the same 4 or 5 who keep saying over and over, month after month, that they don't get calls back. That there indicates the problem. STOP CALLING THEM ALL THE TIME. Why should I as a taxpayer be paying for you to waste their time?

They have a chain of command. How could it be possible for our city manager and mayor to be taking constant calls from the same people over and over? The generalizations about about not calling any citizens back should be amended to state that they don't call certain individuals back (assuming that is the case). Making a blanket statement that they don't call citizens back is simply untrue. Why even bother making it?

I have contacted the city on certain matters. I've had a call back from the person I called, but also been sent to the person who most appropriately handles the situation. I guess because I don't call and bitch non stop, and am respectful of their time.

Thank you 3:02. Finally a truthful and reasonable statement even the chronic complainers can understand.
"But he's a nice guy they tell us".
You spend the majority of your time hanging around city hall, the commission meetings and the staff. Are you so stupid that you can't make up your own mind about what kind of person Bornstein is or just that much of a sheep that you go along with what everyone else says?

When Susan Stanton was city manager she was being paid $150,000 a year. That was in 2011. Why shouldn't our current city manager be paid at least what Susan Stanton was being paid? In addition to her salary she also had an assistant who had to be making at least $70,000 per year. Our current city manager doesn't have an assistant and in the opinion of the majority of city residents, he's doing a good job and they are content with the job he and the city staff are doing.

To those asking what has he accomplished, try for starters:
He got us out of a loser of a lawsuit with Greater Bay, he listened to the public outcry about the pool and opened it even though it is a money loser, he brought is E.R. Bradley's to a loser of a 19th hole, now The Beach Club it is a very nice place to meet and eat, after two plus years of not being able to rent out a loser of design putting a 5,000 square foot restaurant above another one, he has asked for ideas from a broad spectrum of people with the resources and know how to possibly include other non-performing aspects of the casino complex, so that it can start generating income and not be a drag on us taxpayers, he has fully staffed our code department with very qualified staff to tackle long overlooked licensing and back fines and to collect back taxes and fees owed to the city, he has mended fences torn by Mr./Ms. Stanton with our neighboring cities and county, well I could keep going but that is for starters.

Plus he looks better in a skirt than Stanton did.

Stop drinking all that sweet stuff--it is really going to your brain anony at 3:54.

What anonymous 4:03 PM? You don't agree that Bornstein looks better in a skirt than Stanton?

Lynn Anderson said...

@ 4:21, this sounds like Greg Rice humor. He looked ok in kilts.

Now that is taking it WAY TOO FAR. :)

Why is everyone anonymous? I was always taught, if you couldn't sign your name to something, then don't say it because no one will believe or respect you.

My contact with Mayor Triolo has been,at best, extremely limited. The words "constant bitching" do not apply to my communications with city hall. And that is really not the point.Did I miss something in the charter about what amount of Communication is allowed between city hall and we the people? MULTIPLE people do not get e-mails or calls returned for the administration or their Commissioners. And where is the survey that shows that the majority of city residents are content with our city manager and think that he is doing a good job? Most of the people in this town don't even know who the MAYOR is, much less the city manager. This must be the same MAJORITY that wanted Szerdi re-elected. LOL Katie Mcgiveorn
